Job summary

Airalo is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to evolve our global platform serving 20+ million users. You will lead architectural decisions, implement scalable services, and drive SOA transitions.

You will mentor mid-level engineers, enforce SOLID, and collaborate with Product and DevOps to translate requirements into roadmaps. Remote role for Spain residents; strong PHP, Laravel, Symfony, AWS, and CI/CD experience required; English is the working language.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of backend development experience with PHP.
• 4+ years building enterprise apps in Laravel or Symfony.
• Distributed systems, event-driven arch, and messaging patterns (SQS/ Pub/Sub).
• Fluent English communication.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design of high-performance distributed systems handling global traffic.
• Develop and refine services to improve scalability and efficiency.
• Drive transition toward service-oriented architecture for modularity.
• Set the bar for code quality with SOLID, design patterns & tests.
• Coach mid-level engineers through deep code reviews and knowledge sharing.
• Identify bottlenecks and implement advanced caching and DB strategies.
• Partner with Product & DevOps to translate requirements into scalable roadmaps.
