Smart Working is a remote-first company seeking a Senior PHP/Symfony Engineer to own backend work for enterprise marketing and revenue data. The role involves Symfony 6.x with an upgrade to Symfony 7, Angular front end, and Python AI microservices, requiring strong architectural thinking and independence.

Expect to work in a remote, cross-functional squad with engineering, product, QA and DevOps. Fluent English and ability to work UK hours are essential in a collaborative, high-autonomy

Formación

• 8+ years of commercial software engineering experience, including at least 5 years with PHP.
• 3+ years of recent commercial experience with Symfony 6.x/7 at Advanced level.
• 4+ years of backend architecture, system design and scalability.
• 2+ years of Advanced experience using AI development tools critically (reviewing AI-generated code).
• 5+ years of Advanced MySQL experience; PostgreSQL depth considered.

Responsabilidades

• Take ownership of backend development within the core Symfony application, delivering work independently within 2–3 months.
• Review and critically assess code written by the team and AI tools, challenging approaches and ensuring key considerations are addressed.
• Support the migration from Symfony 6.1 to Symfony 7 by resolving versioning and compatibility issues.
• Improve performance, scalability and maintainability of the application for easier feature introduction.
• Collaborate with Angular front end, TypeScript and Python AI services, coordinating with DevOps on backend changes.
