Smart Working Solutions is hiring a Senior PHP/Symfony Engineer to own backend development within a mature Symfony platform, upgrading from 6.x to 7, and collaborating with Angular, TypeScript, and Python AI microservices. The role emphasizes architecture, independence, and remote collaboration across global teams.

The ideal candidate has 8+ years in software engineering, strong PHP/Symfony expertise, and experience with AI tooling, databases, and cloud services.

Formación

• 8+ years of commercial software engineering experience, including PHP
• 7+ years of Expert-level PHP development
• 3+ years with Symfony 6.x/7
• 4+ years backend architecture, system design and scalability
• 2+ years experience with AI development tools
• 5+ years MySQL (schema design & optimization) or PostgreSQL equivalent
• 1+ year Angular/TypeScript; React/Vue with TS acceptable
• 3+ years PHPUnit; Pest acceptable
• 1+ year framework upgrades/modernising legacy code
• 2+ years AWS; Azure/GCP acceptable
• Fluent English; strong remote communication
• Ability to work UK hours
• Background checks & PII/data protection compliance
• Hands-on engineering with architectural mindset

Responsabilidades

• Own backend development within the Symfony core application
• Review code from team and AI tools critically
• Assist Symfony 6.1 to 7 upgrade and resolve compatibility issues
• Improve performance, scalability and maintainability
• Collaborate with Angular front end, TypeScript and Python AI services
• Read Angular/TypeScript code; frontend exposure not required
• Assess wider system impact of technical decisions
• Identify root causes and seek better implementations
• Deliver maintainable solutions in legacy codebase
• Operate with high autonomy while collaborating remotely
• Follow SOC 2 and security requirements
