Ookla is seeking a Data Architect to join the solutions architecture team to evolve our data platform powering Speedtest and related products. You will design scalable data models, storages and pipelines for real-time analytics and AI/ML integration while ensuring compliance.

You will collaborate with data science, product engineering and stakeholders to translate business needs into technical vision, and mentor engineers to raise the technical bar.

Formación

• Extensive experience in software and data architectures, with a focus on designing large-scale data lakehouses.
• Expert level fluency in programming (Python, Go or Java) and strong working knowledge of SQL, databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL, Redshift, Iceberg, Athena).
• Experience with streaming and event-driven architectures to process high volume data using tools like Spark.
• Strong understanding of data modeling and modern data architectures like data lakehouses.
• Experience with AI/ML is nice to have.
• Proven ability to balance immediate delivery with long-term architectural integrity while managing technical debt.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• 6+ years of relevant data engineering experience.
• Background check is required.

Responsabilidades

• Creating and evolving architectural roadmaps for the data platform, ensuring alignment with product goals and long-term technical scalability.
• Turn product requirements to viable and scalable data architectures and implementations in a high data volume environment.
• Acting as a bridge between data science, product engineering, and stakeholders to translate business strategy into technical vision.
• Establish and follow data governance frameworks, standards, and best practices to ensure data quality, security, and compliance.
• Raising the technical bar by mentoring senior engineers and architects on complex data modeling and distributed system challenges.
