Ookla is seeking a Senior Data Engineer to join the Data Engineering team, building tools and pipelines for processing the world’s largest internet performance data. You will develop high-volume data processing jobs, work with data scientists to turn theory into products, and mentor junior engineers in architectural best practices.

The role emphasizes performance, accuracy, and collaboration, with a flexible, innovative work environment.

Formación

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field or equivalent experience.
• Strong programming concepts with experience in at least 1 OOP language (Python, Scala, Java).
• 3+ years of direct experience with Python.
• Experience with high volume distributed data processing in Spark.
• Strong SQL, databases (MySQL / Redshift / Athena / Trino), data modeling and modern data warehouse management.
• Excellent troubleshooting and analysis skills.
• Eagerness to learn new technologies in a dynamic environment.
• Strong communication skills in person and virtual environments.
• Strong time management and self-driven work ethic.
• Experience with AWS cloud services is a plus.
• Experience with event-driven architecture and streaming data pipelines is a plus.

Responsabilidades

• Develop high volume data processing jobs across platforms (Redshift, Athena, Iceberg, Spark, Airflow).
• Collaborate with Data Scientists to translate theory into viable products.
• Identify bottlenecks in system performance and recommend improvements.
• Support and collaborate with data scientists, analysts, and product managers.
• Mentor and guide junior team members on architectural principles and best practices.
