American Express is seeking a Senior Manager, Spain Chief Risk Officer – Financial Risk Management in Madrid (Hybrid) to lead and oversee Financial Risk for the International Legal Entity portfolio. The role requires directing risk strategy, aligning RAF metrics with Enterprise standards, and engaging regulators and leadership to safeguard value and customers.

Responsabilidades

• Participate in RAF refresh process and align International Legal Entities Financial Risk metrics with Enterprise where possible.
• Provide Financial Risk credible challenge to Legal Entity projects and in Change Advisory Forums.
• Understand and articulate the Financial Risk profile of the LE from data reporting.
• Act as main point of contact for Financial Risk for LE regulator, Audit and ILE Leadership.
• LE-specific committee Financial Risk representative and contact for LE board meetings as required.
• Own ILE Financial Risk policies and frameworks where required.
• Influence Enterprise Financial Risk programs to ensure fit for purpose for ILE deployment.
• Advise business on applicability and effective execution of Financial Risk frameworks.
• Coordinate with enterprise Risk Lead on 2nd Line testing and support ILE Financial Risk testing.
• Ensure communication of risks between ILE and Enterprise.
• Support the ILE Chief Risk Officer in oversight duties aligned to governance frameworks.
• Review issues and findings related to risk types impacting ILE and oversee remediation.
• Lead 2nd Line of Defense oversight for Regulatory Change Management relating to Risk Type.
• Develop LE metrics dashboard including RAF metrics aligned with regs.
• Review, approve and challenge models impacting the ILE.
• Lead a Financial Risk analyst.

Job Description

The Global Risk & Compliance (GRC) organization serves as American Express' independent risk management function. GRC maintains the enterprise risk framework, provides oversight and challenge, and monitors key risks. By embedding risk discipline into strategy and operations, GRC enables responsible growth, innovation, and long‑term value creation while protecting customers and shareholders.

The Spain CRO function is part of the Int'l CRO team, within Global Risk and Compliance (GRC). It is responsible for identifying and overseeing risk across all processes.

Key Responsibilities

• Participate in Risk Appetite Framework (RAF) refresh process and seek to align International Legal Entities (ILE) Financial Risk metrics with Enterprise (as far as possible)
• Provide Financial Risk credible challenge to Legal Entity (LE) projects, strategies and in the Change Advisory Forums.
• Understand and speak to the Financial Risk profile of the LE based on aggregation of data and reporting
• Act as main point of contact for Financial Risk for LE regulator, Audit and ILE Leadership, and requests for Financial Risk program/results requests
• LE specific committee Financial Risk representative, and point of contact for Financial Risk at LE board meetings (as required)
• Own ILE R Financial Risk policies and frameworks, where required
• Influence Enterprise Financial Risk and Framework/Policies/Programs to ensure fit for purpose for ILE, and support ILE deployment of Enterprise Financial Risk programs
• Advise business on applicability and effective execution of Financial Risk frameworks
• Coordinate with enterprise Risk Lead on 2nd Line testing, and/or support ILE Financial Risk testing & provide output of ILE testing to Enterprise for awareness and risk aggregation
• Ensure appropriate communication of risks between ILE and Enterprise
• Support the ILE Chief Risk Officer (CRO) in their oversight duties aligned to the Risk Governance Framework and applicable polices
• Reviewing Issues and findings related to risk type impacting ILE, and overseeing effective remediation
• 2nd Line of Defense ILE oversight lead for Regulatory Change Managements relating to Risk Type
• Work with Enterprise team to develop LE metrics dashboard, including RAF metrics, aligned with applicable regs
• Review, approve and challenge applicable models impacting the ILE
• Lead a Financial Risk analyst

Minimum Qualifications

• 5+ years of leadership experience in risk management or a similar role;
• Strong business acumen with a risk-reward control perspective;
• Experience in interacting with regulators and familiarity with Spanish and Europe regulatory landscape and requirements;
• Demonstrated ability to successfully manage multiple priorities under pressure;
• Fluency in English (verbal and written);
• Advanced degree in business, economics, engineering, or a related field is preferred.
