Job summary

Pleo is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to join the Bank Infrastructure team, building payment rails and ensuring reliable money movement. You will integrate with banks and partners, ensuring accuracy, scalability, and resilience.

You will collaborate across compliance, finance operations, and product, while mentoring peers and driving observability improvements in high-availability systems.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience building payment integrations, bank APIs, or financial messaging formats.
• Strong understanding of end-to-end payment flows: initiation, routing, reconciliation, settlement, exceptions.
• Experience designing and operating highly available, resilient distributed systems with observability.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain bank integrations across multiple payment schemes.
• Own reliability and correctness of inbound/outbound payment flows and reconciliation.
• Architect resilient systems to handle outages and edge cases in financial messaging.
• Lead initiatives to improve observability, fault tolerance, and operational excellence.
• Collaborate with compliance, finance ops, and product to evolve payment capabilities.
• Participate in code reviews, post-mortems, and mentor other engineers.
• Address technical debt and guide migrations.
