SistelGroup in Spain seeks a Senior Automation Engineer to lead Ignition projects, develop SCADA solutions, and support digital transformation for regulated industries. You will design architecture, connect plant systems to higher‑level platforms, and help win new opportunities.

You will work in a central engineering team, building reusable components and documenting designs while collaborating with commercial teams. Hybrid, on-site in Sant Cugat del Vallès.

Formación

• Degree in engineering or equivalent experience.
• 5–8 years in industrial automation/SCADA or industrial software.
• Hands-on Ignition project experience (Perspective/ Vision, tags/UDTs).
• Strong Python and SQL skills with database design.
• Experience with OPC UA and PLC connections.

Responsabilidades

Senior Automation Engineer, Ignition Specialist

THE ROLE

We are looking for a Senior Automation Engineer to join our central engineering team. This team designs SCADA and digitalization solutions, writes engineering standards, supports the commercial team on new opportunities, and helps the project teams with difficult technical problems.

Your main work is design and development, and you are a Builder. You will build Ignition applications, connect them to plant systems and to higher-level systems, and create the standards and reusable components that our project teams use. This is an office-based engineering role.

Ignition is one of our core platforms and we work with it every day. You will be a Lead Ignition Specialist, and the person other engineers come to for help with the platform. You will also work with the other systems we use — AVEVA System Platform, Wonderware InTouch, iFIX, Siemens WinCC, PCS 7, and more.

You will also help the commercial team win new projects: designing the technical solution and architecture, preparing the estimate, and building demonstrations for clients.

Most of our clients work in regulated industries, so well-documented engineering is key.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Ignition and SCADA development

• Design and build Ignition applications: Perspective and Vision, tags and UDTs, alarms, historian, reports and Gateway configuration.
• Write scripts and queries in Python and SQL, and design the databases behind the applications.
• Develop and improve SCADA applications on our other platforms, including upgrades of older applications.

Integration and communications

• Connect PLC and DCS systems (Siemens, Rockwell, Schneider, Omron) to databases, historians, reports and cloud services.
• Set up industrial communications: OPC UA, MQTT and Sparkplug B, Modbus, Profinet and REST APIs.
• Design solutions for virtual and container infrastructure, with secure separation between IT and OT networks.
• Integrations to MES, ERP, Databases, and other digital manufacturing systems.

Standards and reusable components

• Write and maintain our SCADA engineering standards, so that the same approach works on Ignition, Siemens, AVEVA, and more.
• Build reusable templates and component libraries that make projects faster and more consistent.
• Take part in design and code reviews, and write clear technical documentation.

New solutions and technical support

• Design technical solutions and prepare estimates for new opportunities, together with the commercial team.
• Work on front-end engineering consultation and design for key customers looking to develop their digital foundation.
• Build and present demonstrations and proofs of concept for clients.
• Turn new ideas into working prototypes.
• Help the project teams solve difficult technical problems, and train engineers on our platforms and standards.

REQUIREMENTS

• Degree in engineering (industrial, automation, electronics, computer science) or equivalent experience.
• 5–8 years of experience in industrial automation and SCADA engineering, or in industrial software development.
• Proven hands-on experience developing Ignition projects: Perspective and/or Vision, tags and UDTs, alarms, historian and Gateway administration.
• Good Python and SQL skills (SQL Server, PostgreSQL or MySQL).
• Experience with industrial communication protocols (OPC UA).
• Experience connecting to PLC systems.
• Experience with Git and code reviews.
• Confidence with clients: you can present a solution and explain an estimate.
• Spanish and English, spoken and written.
• Available for occasional travel to visit clients together with the commercial team.

DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE AND CERTIFICATIONS

The following skills are nice-to-have and will support the innovative engineering initiatives at our company.

• Ignition Gold Certification or Ignition Core Certification (Inductive Automation).
• Development of Ignition projects using MQTT and REST APIs.
• Historians and industrial data platforms: AVEVA OSI PI, AspenTech Inmation or similar.
• Azure cloud certification, or equivalent cloud experience.
• Experience in pharmaceutical, chemical or food & beverage manufacturing, and in GMP environments (GAMP 5, 21 CFR Part 11, Annex 11).
• Sepasoft modules for Ignition, or Cirrus Link MQTT modules.
• Vendor certification in Siemens (SITRAIN, TIA Portal or WinCC), AVEVA System Platform / InTouch, or iFIX.
• Unified Namespace and Sparkplug B data architectures, and edge computing.
• Experience setting a platform standard inside a company — not only using the platform, but defining how others use it.
• Experience mentoring engineers.
• Containers and CI/CD (Docker, Kubernetes, Git pipelines).
• Data analysis and dashboards (Power BI, Grafana or similar).
