Job summary

Barcelona Supercomputing Center in Barcelona is seeking a Senior Research Engineer to lead collaborations on AI projects, design pilots and evaluate models on MareNostrum and related HPC resources.

You will coordinate with partners, suppliers and public sector bodies, translating needs into technical solutions while mentoring junior staff. Fluency in English, Spanish or Catalan is desired, with a strong research and implementation track record.

Qualifications

• PhD degree required with strong background in AI, NLP or computational linguistics.
• Experience in translating client needs into technical solutions and pilots.
• Proven track record in international EU projects and collaborations.
• Hands-on experience building LLM-based applications and evaluation.
• Experience with AI governance, GDPR and EU AI Act considerations.
• Advanced Python programming and software engineering practices.

Responsibilities

• Lead scoping of collaborations with companies and public administrations.
• Provide expert technical support on model selection, adaptation and deployment.
• Design and develop pilots based on large language models and AI tech.
• Deploy models with efficient inference stacks and benchmark performance.
• Evaluate models, platforms and applications including Catalan/Spanish support.
• Mentor junior engineers and coordinate small technical teams.
• Prepare talks, training sessions and dissemination activities.
