Job summary

Pearson is seeking a Senior AI Scientist to advance AI capabilities in English Language Learning for a global learner base. You will prototype and implement AI systems for educational products, collaborating with engineers and education specialists to drive impact.

You will lead ML research, design production-ready models, and mentor junior data scientists, applying NLP, statistics and psychometrics to improve learning outcomes. This hybrid role is based in Spain or Poland.

Qualifications

• Experience with generative AI models and techniques.
• Strong collaboration with engineering teams to develop and implement AI solutions.
• Proven experience in building production-ready machine learning models to solve diverse set of business problems.
• Good knowledge of statistical modelling and machine learning theory
• Proficiency in Python and machine learning frameworks (pandas, numpy, scikit-learn, NLTK, spaCy, Hugging Face, TensorFlow, PyTorch).
• Experience with Git-based code review.
• Proficiency in Linux, Unix or macOS.
• Some experience in working with non-technical stakeholders.
• Intermediate presentation and mentoring skills.
• Ability to work in diverse, remote, asynchronous team.
• Collaboration and feedback skills.
• Proficiency in written and spoken English and a local language.

Responsibilities

• Lead significant parts of the lifecycle of learning product development.
• Research and develop data-driven educational AI solutions.
• Design and maintain ML-based learning capabilities with engineering teams.
• Design monitoring frameworks for production performance and drive improvements.
• Create internal trainings and technical documentation (incl. patents).
• Share results through publications, conferences and meetups.
• Stay updated with state-of-the-art methods in NLP, speech processing, statistics, psychometrics.
• Provide input into team vision, goals, and processes.
• Lead, mentor and coach a small group of data scientists.
• Supervise or lead colleagues with less experience.
