The CSA Mine is located in Cobar NSW and is Australia’s highest-grade copper mine. It operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and directly employs over 500 people including contractors. This is a residential only position (DIDO or FIFO not available).

CSA Mine is located 11 kilometres north-west of Cobar, central western New South Wales. At 1.9 kilometres deep, it is one of Australia’s deepest underground mines.

About the Role

The Safety Officer is responsible for supporting Health & Safety systems, training programs, and field-based safety leadership. This role plays a key part in risk management, incident response, and safety improvement initiatives across site operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Support supervisors and workers in meeting WHS obligations and safe work practices
• Conduct site risk assessments, incident investigations, and regular safety audits
• Perform Fitness for Work testing (including drug, alcohol, fatigue, and hydration assessments)
• Assist in training facilitation and delivery of safety programs
• Maintain compliance with the Safety Management System
• Monitor and support emergency preparedness across site
• Build effective relationships with internal stakeholders

Qualifications and Experience

• Demonstrated experience in underground mining or heavy industry
• Certificate IV in Workplace Health and Safety
• RIIRIS301D and RIIRIS402 (G2) qualifications
• HLTPAT304D and HLTPAT41OD – Alcohol and Other Drug Collection
• Occupational First Aid
• Valid Australian Driver’s Licence
• ICAM Lead Investigator qualification (highly regarded)
• Strong computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office
• Strong verbal and written communication skills

CSA Mine is located in Cobar, Central Western NSW. It is operated by Cobar Management Pty Ltd (CMPL) – owned by Glencore. The mine has historical production and focuses on copper with a silver co-product. The underground mine produces over 1.1 million tonnes of copper ore and over 185,000 tonnes of copper concentrate per annum, with concentrate containing approximately 29% copper metal and exported to smelters in India, China and South East Asia. The mine employs a significant local workforce and holds approximately 820km2 of tenements in the local area.
