Overview

This role involves working within the Madrid transport planning team on a range of international projects, contributing to the growth of the transport planning business in the UK and Spain.

Responsibilities
  • Lead transport planning advice and technical services to deliver projects within agreed time, quality, and cost constraints.
  • Undertake and manage technical analyses, derive key findings, and report results.
  • Prepare and contribute to technical reports and other project outputs, coordinating tasks appropriate to your experience.
  • Project manage medium to large commissions, with increasing responsibility as skills develop.
  • Deliver projects from initial strategy through planning, design, and construction, aligning with UK, Spanish, and potentially international design standards.
  • Engage in business development activities, including proposal writing and engaging with potential clients and partners to grow the pipeline.
  • Coordinate with Business Development and Resource management teams and identify opportunities with Principal / Account Leads.
  • Support technical knowledge development within the team, potentially mentoring junior staff.
  • Specify and oversee data analysis, including traffic and pedestrian counts and car parking surveys.
  • Conduct site audits to identify current and future transport infrastructure needs.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with clients and other organisations.
  • Specify and manage feasibility studies, prepare reports and presentations.
  • Document client needs and pipeline into proposals and project plans; promote innovative and cost-effective practices and digital solutions to improve delivery.

Candidate specification

As a Transport Planning professional, you should have experience in the transport planning industry and knowledge of the current Spanish transport policy context (and ideally the UK context) with the ability to apply this knowledge to projects and client interactions, for delivery and for business development.

We Need Someone Who
  • Understands demand and supply aspects of transport issues; is proactive and a good problem solver.
  • Writes clearly in English and Spanish; communicates well with clients and teams.
  • Is confident with data interpretation and analysis; has experience in the transport planning industry in Spain, and ideally also internationally and in UK markets.
  • Can understand client needs and help achieve desired outcomes.
You Will Be Able To Demonstrate The Following
  • Broad experience in transport and / or urban planning, with interest in sustainable transport and policy development.
  • Technical knowledge in transport planning areas such as business cases, active travel, travel demand, public transport, decarbonisation, strategic connectivity, transport studies, and development planning for projects with public and private sector clients.
  • Experience contributing to proposals, winning and delivering Transport Planning projects, and leading teams.
  • Strong communication skills for project teams and clients; able to apply analytical and numeric skills to solve problems and develop innovative solutions.
  • Commercial awareness and ability to maintain client relationships and drive continuous improvement.
  • Degree in Transport Planning or Civil Engineering or equivalent. Post-graduate qualifications and chartered status are beneficial but not essential. Knowledge of transport modelling software is advantageous but not required. A network of industry relationships, particularly in Spain, and experience across private and public sectors is beneficial.
