Job summary

iPronics is seeking a Photonic IC Designer to join the Photonics Department in Valencia. The role is primarily on-site with some flexibility to work remotely.

Responsibilities include designing and simulating photonic components, applying inverse design and adjoint optimization, and developing Python-based layouts for building blocks. Requires 2–3+ years with FDTD tools and fluent English.

Qualifications

• BSc or MSc degree in Telecommunication Engineering or Physics with focus on Integrated Photonics.
• 2–3+ years experience using photonics FDTD tools (Lumerical, Tidy3D, Comsol).
• Strong experience with Python-based layout tools for photonic building blocks.
• Reliable, proactive, and self-motivated with excellent communication.
• Fluent in English (C1 level or higher).

Job description

iPronics is looking for a Photonic IC Designer to join our Photonics Department and work on large-scale silicon photonics optical circuit switches. The role is mainly on-site at our Valencia office, with some flexibility to work remotely.

Main Responsibilities

• Designing and simulating photonic components using Lumerical FDTD, MODE, and other photonic simulation tools.
• Using advanced design methods such as inverse design and adjoint optimization.
• Optimizing photonic components and conducting reliability analyses under fabrication process variations.
• Developing parametric, Python-based layouts of passive and active photonic building blocks (e.g., GDSfactory or KLayout).
• Driving research and development of innovative ideas and solutions in photonic component design.
• Translating system requirements into photonic IC designs and delivering clear, detailed reports.
• Collaborating with cross-functional design groups to ensure measurability and seamless system integration.

Desired Skills & Experience

• BSc or MSc degree (PhD preferred) in Telecommunication Engineering, Physics, or a related discipline, with a focus on Integrated Photonics.
• 2–3+ years of experience using photonics FDTD simulation tools (e.g., Lumerical, Tidy3D, Comsol).
• Strong experience with Python-based layout tools for designing photonic building blocks.
• Reliable, proactive, and self-motivated, with excellent communication skills.
• Fluent in English (C1 level or higher).

Nice to have

• Experience with tape-outs, including design rule checks (DRC) and working with foundry design kits (PDKs).
• Experience comparing simulations with measured data from fabricated devices.
• Familiarity with advanced optimization frameworks (e.g., optiSLang) or cloud and high-performance computing for running simulations.
