Flywire is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead high-impact teams in Valencia, shaping the evolution of our core payments architecture. You will balance technical vision with people leadership, acting as a player-coach to drive automated, scalable payment processes across the globe.

You will guide teams on modern distributed systems, AI-enabled workflows, and resilient delivery, collaborating with product, QA, and SRE to align roadmaps and outcomes.

Formación

• 3+ years of management experience leading engineering teams.
• 7+ years in software engineering with distributed systems.
• Hands-on payments domain experience with payment platforms.
• Strong ability to influence senior leaders and communicate clearly.

Job Description

The Opportunity As an Engineering Manager, you will lead high-impact teams focused on the evolution of Flywire s core payment architecture. You are a strategic leader who balances deep technical vision with exceptional people leadership, serving as a player-coach to drive the automation of complex global payment processes. Your mission is to strengthen our payments engine by integrating AI-driven advancements and scaling resilient, distributed systems that move hundreds of millions daily.

Key Responsibilities

• Leadership Strategy Strategic Oversight: Manage the activities of specific teams, setting clear priorities and ensuring execution aligns with functional strategy and business trends.
• Team Development: Responsible for performance management, professional development, and hiring to optimize team capability within budget.
• Resource Allocation: Independently determine approaches to daily operations and resource management to support multiple product lines.
• Engineering Excellence System Evolution: Drive modern architecture by providing long-term technical direction for reliable, performant, and scalable distributed systems.
• AI Automation: Design workflow orchestration and decision support systems leveraging AI to optimize compliance and risk mitigation.
• Quality Governance: Establish high standards through thorough design reviews and sustainable engineering practices like TDD and CI/CD.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration Stakeholder Alignment: Partner with Product, QA, and SRE to align technical roadmaps with business outcomes and product strategy.
• Global Influence: Build strong relationships with business stakeholders and senior engineers across the global organization to refine infrastructure requirements.

Qualifications

• Management Experience 3+ years of experience managing and mentoring engineering teams, with a proven track record in performance management and hiring.
• Technical Foundations 7+ years of software engineering experience focusing on high-availability production systems and distributed architecture.
• Payments Domain Expertise Hands-on experience building or supporting payment platforms, payment gateways, financial systems, or fintech products.
• Strong understanding of payment processing, payment orchestration, card payments, banking integrations, or other payment ecosystem components is highly preferred.
• Leadership Communication Strong ability to navigate complex business issues, influence senior leaders, and communicate technical subjects clearly to non-technical partners.
