Skydance Animation is seeking a Junior Environment Surfacing Artist in Madrid to contribute to textures, materials, and shaders for environments and props under supervision. You will collaborate with the production team to achieve the show's visual style and quality.

The role requires a portfolio or recent graduate with basic knowledge of Substance tools, RenderMan/Arnold, and a willingness to learn shading workflows, lighting, and UV layout in a fast-paced environment.

Formación

  • 0–2 years of experience in VFX, animation, or related industries.
  • Recent graduates or candidates with a strong portfolio demonstrating relevant artistic and/or technical skills may also be considered.
  • Basic knowledge of RenderMan and/or Arnold is desirable.
  • Familiarity with Substance 3D Painter, Substance 3D Designer, and/or Mari.
  • Strong artistic and/or technical aptitude related to 3D animation or VFX.
  • Basic understanding of UV creation and layout.
  • Basic knowledge of lighting and modeling.
  • Familiarity with Houdini, Solaris is a plus.
  • Understanding of displacement workflows is a plus.
  • Medium English level required.
  • Spanish desirable.

Responsabilidades

  • Creates textures using photographic references, digital hand-painted techniques, existing texture assets, and procedural workflows.
  • Paints stylized textures based on concept art while maintaining the visual style of the show using Substance 3D Painter and Photoshop.
  • Creates procedural textures using Substance 3D Designer.
  • Demonstrates the ability to adapt and iterate within a variety of artistic styles.
  • Demonstrates a basic understanding of UVs and texture layout.
  • Shows a basic understanding of physically based shading principles and material properties such as albedo, reflection, refraction, roughness, and subsurface scattering.
  • Authors and modifies materials using standard shading workflows within the production's established rendering tools.
  • Follows established artistic and technical workflows, tools, and methodologies while developing a broader understanding of the production pipeline.
  • Works collaboratively with other members of the Environment Surfacing team and other departments when required.
  • Follows the artistic and technical guidance of the Supervisor and Lead Artists.
  • Communicates questions, progress, and potential issues to the appropriate team members.

As a Junior Environment Surfacing Artist, you will contribute to the development of textures, materials, and shaders for environments and props. Working under the guidance of the Environment Surfacing Supervisor and Lead Artists, you will collaborate with the wider production team to help achieve the visual style and quality established for the show.
