Job summary

Julius Baer in Madrid is seeking a skilled Java Backend Engineer to join our team. You will develop and maintain enterprise-grade backend apps using Java 21, Jakarta EE, and Oracle SQL, and design REST APIs for internal and external integrations.

Qualifications

• Strong hands-on Java development and OO principles.
• Experience with Java/Jakarta EE, JPA/Hibernate, and Maven.
• Experience building and consuming RESTful APIs.
• Working knowledge of Oracle databases, SQL, and data persistence concepts.

You will work closely with Technical Leads, Product Owners, QA engineers, and other development teams to deliver high-quality software solutions across both backend and frontend domains. YOUR CHALLENGE

YOUR PROFILE

Must-Have Skills

• Strong hands-on experience with Java development and object-oriented programming principles.
• Experience with Java/Jakarta EE, JPA/Hibernate, and Maven-based applications.
• Experience building and consuming RESTful APIs.
• Working knowledge of Oracle databases, SQL, and data persistence concepts.
• Understanding of software design principles, design patterns, and clean coding practices.
• Experience with automated testing using frameworks such as JUnit and Mockito.
• Familiarity with source control systems and collaborative development workflows.
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to analyze complex technical issues.
• Ability to work effectively within Agile development teams.
• Good communication skills and a collaborative mindset.
• Ability to work across both backend and frontend domains in a full-stack capacity.

Nice-to-Have Skills

• Experience with JBoss EAP, WildFly, or other enterprise Java application servers.
• Familiarity with OpenAPI Generator, REST API design, and contract-first development.
• Experience working with SOAP/JAX-WS, Apache CXF, or enterprise integration technologies.
• Exposure to messaging platforms and JMS-based solutions.
• Experience with Splunk, OpenTelemetry, or application monitoring solutions.
• Familiarity with integration testing frameworks such as Kotest or Ktor.
• Exposure to Docker-based local development environments.
