Astrafy is seeking a Chief Technology Officer to design, build and operate the firm’s technology platform for investment and operations end to end. You will define architecture, select the stack, manage partners, and take the system from design into production on a phased roadmap.

You will be a founding member of the technology function, reporting to the CEO, with responsibility for AI in production, governance, and regulatory conformity across the EU.

• 12 to 20 years in technology, combining software engineering or data platform leadership with applied AI.

Your mission

The firm

We are an investment manager under authorisation in Spain, headquartered in Madrid, investing in operational infrastructure across Western Europe and the United States.

What distinguishes us is how that work gets done. We apply artificial intelligence systematically to investment analysis, structured around three integrated stages: data, prediction, decision. The governing principle is simple and non-negotiable.

AI informs; the team decides. Every output is traceable, explainable and subject to human judgement.

This is not a firm that has bolted AI onto an existing process. The operating model is being designed around it from the ground up.

The role

The technology and data architecture does not yet exist. You will design it, build it, and operate it.

As Chief Technology Officer you own the platform that supports the manager's investment and operational work end to end, from origination and analysis through valuation, portfolio monitoring, investor reporting and risk. You will define the architecture, choose the stack, select and manage implementation partners, and take the system from design into production on a phased roadmap.

You will be a founding member of the technology function, reporting to the CEO and working alongside the investment and finance leadership. This is a build mandate. The person who takes it will have the unusual privilege, and the exposure, of making the foundational technical decisions rather than inheriting them.

The role sits at the centre of the firm's differentiation. It is the hire that makes the strategy possible.

What you will own

Architecture and platform. The end-to-end technology and data architecture: model and tooling selection, integration of management systems and market data sources, infrastructure, and the production environment the whole firm runs on.

AI in production. Real systems doing real work under real deadlines, supporting live investment decisions. Not pilots, not demonstrations.

AI governance and human-in-the-loop design. The control framework that makes every system output traceable, explainable and reviewable. Designing where human judgement enters, how it is evidenced, and how the firm can defend any decision the platform contributed to.

Regulatory conformity. Compliance of the technology estate with the EU AI Act, DORA and GDPR. EU data residency. Cybersecurity and operational resilience.

Delivery. A phased implementation roadmap, vendor selection and oversight, and accountability for what actually ships.

What we are looking for

Essential

• 12 to 20 years in technology, combining software engineering or data platform leadership with applied artificial intelligence.
• Experience in a regulated financial environment.
• A demonstrable record of building and rolling out data and AI platforms into production, with live use cases and measurable impact. Proof-of-concept work alone is not sufficient for this role.
• Working command of AI governance, traceability and the applicable regulatory framework (AI Act, DORA, GDPR) as it applies to financial services.
• The ability to translate an asset manager's business needs into technical architecture, and to hold your own in a conversation with investment professionals about what the business actually requires.
• Professional fluency in Spanish and English.
• Residence in Madrid. This is an in-person role and physical presence is a condition of the position.

Valued

• Background in fintech, asset management or market infrastructure; familiarity with closed-ended fund mechanics.
• Quantitative depth: valuation engines, discounted cash flow modelling, or comparable analytical systems.
• Experience establishing a technology function from scratch.
• Familiarity with EU data residency models.

Disposition

That means comfort with ambiguity, appetite for defining things that have no precedent inside the firm, and the autonomy to move without waiting to be told, combined with a genuine willingness to work inside a committee structure and be challenged on your reasoning.

Demonstrable, hands-on adoption of frontier AI tooling in your own work is a differentiating criterion. We will ask you how you use it, and we will expect concrete examples with real outcomes.
