Getnet Europe in Madrid seeks a Head of Legal for Getnet EU to lead the legal function across Europe, advising senior management on commercial, regulatory and technology matters while ensuring compliance with card schemes and EU rules. The role reports to governance bodies and supports cross-border initiatives.

You will guide merchant acquiring, payments regulation, and outsourcing agreements, manage corporate governance and disputes, and build a high-performing team in a matrix organisation,

Qualifications

WHY JOIN OUR TEAM

The Head of Legal, Getnet EU will lead the legal function supporting Getnet’s European business and act as a trusted legal adviser to senior management and relevant governance bodies, operating effectively within a matrix organisation with dual reporting lines. The role will provide strategic, pragmatic and commercially focused legal advice across Getnet EU’s activities, including product, technology, commercial, regulatory and governance matters, ensuring alignment with applicable law, regulatory requirements, card-scheme rules and Getnet’s global legal strategy. The remit of the role currently covers Getnet’s activities in Spain and Portugal, with potential expansion to other EU countries as Getnet’s business and organisational footprint develops.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

As a Head of Legal, Getnet EU , these will be some of the key activities in your day-to-day role:

• Lead the Getnet EU Legal team, setting priorities in line with business needs, legal risk and Getnet’s global legal strategy.

• Advise senior management and relevant governance bodies on complex commercial, product, technology, regulatory and governance matters.

• Serve as Secretary to the Board of Getnet EU, supporting Board and committee agendas, minutes, resolutions, governance matters and follow-up actions.

• Guide the business on merchant acquiring, payment processing, EU payments regulation, card-scheme requirements, alternative payment methods and local payment schemes.

• Lead legal support for new products, strategic projects, major commercial agreements, technology and outsourcing arrangements, partnerships and multinational customers.

• Oversee corporate governance, regulatory interactions, material disputes and implementation of applicable Getnet and Santander frameworks.

• Design practical legal and regulatory approaches for cross-border operations and complex EU regulatory matters in collaboration with business, product, compliance and regulatory stakeholders.

• Develop the legal team, manage the legal budget and enhance legal delivery through effective standards, templates, technology and allocation of internal and external resources.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

We are in search of a Head of Legal, Getnet EU to join our team in Madrid, with the following qualifications and background:

Professional Experience

• At least 10 years of specialised legal experience within the financial services industry. (Required)

• Strong experience advising on complex commercial, product, regulatory and technology matters in a regulated environment. (Required)

• Experience advising on cross-border regulated business models and EU regulatory requirements across multiple jurisdictions. (Required)

• Experience working with senior management, governance bodies, regulators and cross-border stakeholders. (Required)

• Experience leading people, projects or significant workstreams and allocating work across teams. (Required)

• Experience acting as, or supporting, a Company Secretary or Board Secretary function, ideally within a regulated or financial-services environment. (Required)

• Experience operating effectively in a matrix organisation, including dual reporting lines. (Required)

Education

• Law degree and qualification to practise law in at least one relevant EU or UK jurisdiction. (Required)

Languages

• Fluent English, written and spoken. (Required)

• Additional European languages. (Preferred)

• Strong knowledge of relevant EU financial-services regulations and regulatory requirements across multiple jurisdictions.

• Ability to advise on complex commercial agreements, technology and outsourcing arrangements, regulatory matters and corporate governance.

• Ability to translate complex legal issues into clear, practical and commercially workable advice.

• Practical knowledge of payments, including merchant acquiring, processing, the payments value chain and card-scheme requirements.

• Knowledge of alternative payment methods and local payment schemes relevant to the European payments market.
