Job summary

UNIVERSIDAD POLITÉCNICA DE MADRID in Madrid invites applications for a fully funded 3-year PhD position under the Horizon Europe MSCA Doctoral Networks programme (CPEC project). The role focuses on modular power converters, ageing models, condition monitoring and reliability design.

The ideal candidate holds a Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in engineering with strengths in power electronics, modelling and programming (MATLAB, Python, ANSYS, COMSOL) and excellent English.

Qualifications

• Knowledge and experience in power electronics.
• Design and optimization of power supplies.
• Modelling and design of high frequency magnetic components (inductors and transformers).
• Knowledge about heat transfer.
• Skilled in modelling, simulation and programming (e.g. MATLAB, Python, ANSYS, COMSOL etc.)

Responsibilities

• Define modular converter architectures, operating scenarios and reliability requirements.
• Develop ageing, degradation and fault models for modular power converters.
• Develop condition monitoring, early fault detection and RUL prediction methods.
• Develop a reliability-oriented design methodology for modular power converters.
• Develop health-aware and fault-tolerant control and reconfiguration strategies.
• Develop high-speed protection and fault mitigation strategies.
• Experimentally validate and demonstrate the proposed methodologies.
