Job summary

AstraZeneca plc is advancing AI for Clinical Development within BioPharma AI R&D to accelerate trial design and data-driven decision making. The team builds world-class AI capabilities to inform regulatory-ready analyses across early and late phase programmes.

As Associate Director, Data Scientist, you will lead hands-on development and evaluation of AI methods, collaborating with cross-functional study teams to deliver scalable data science solutions that improve trial efficiency and patient

Qualifications

PhD preferred; MSc with an exceptional computational track record considered.

Responsibilities

Develop, evaluate, and deploy AI methods for clinical trial design and decision-making.
Lead end-to-end data science projects from framing to adoption within study teams.
Partner with Clinical Development, Biometrics, and Regulatory to embed AI strategies into trial design.
Build reusable data products and pipelines with a software engineering mindset for reproducibility.
Apply cutting-edge methodologies including foundation models, agentic AI, and causal inference with clear evaluation criteria.
Drive data-centric AI practices: acquire and quality-control datasets for model training and evaluation.
