Sulzer in Madrid is seeking an experienced Accountant & Tax Specialist to join our finance team. This broad role offers exposure to multiple areas of finance and close collaboration with local operations, shared service teams, external advisors, and international stakeholders.

You will support month-end close, VAT and Intrastat compliance, audits, and accounting processes across the organization from the Madrid office. Fluency in English and strong organizational skills are essential.

Qualifications

• Fluent English with ability to communicate with international stakeholders.
• Degree in accounting/finance/economics or related field required.
• 2–3 years of accounting/finance experience in a broad role.
• Experience supporting audits, financial reporting and compliance.
• Experience with VAT, Intrastat or similar tax processes is preferred.

Responsabilités

• Manage day-to-day accounting activities and ensure compliance with policies and local regulations.
• Process and review accounting transactions across multiple finance areas.
• Execute and monitor bank payments, transfers and treasury activities.
• Support month-end and year-end closing processes.
• Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports.
• Coordinate tax-related activities including VAT and Intrastat compliance.
• Gather and organize documentation for external advisors and authorities.
• Support audits and collaborate with offshore shared service teams.
• Act as a key contact between local entity, finance teams and external auditors.
• Monitor regulatory filings and insurance-related administration.

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Accountant & Tax Specialist to join our finance team in Spain. This is a broad accounting position that offers exposure to multiple areas of finance and provides a unique opportunity to work closely with local operations, shared service teams, external advisors, and international stakeholders.

What you will do

• Manage day-to-day accounting activities and ensure compliance with company policies and local regulations.
• Process and review accounting transactions across different areas of finance.
• Execute and monitor bank payments, transfers, and treasury-related activities.
• Support month-end and year-end closing processes.
• Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
• Coordinate tax-related activities and support VAT, Intrastat, and other compliance requirements.
• Collect, review, and organize documentation required by external advisors and authorities.
• Monitor the completion of statutory and tax obligations in collaboration with external partners.
• Support internal and external audit processes.
• Collaborate with shared service teams and help oversee reconciliations and accounting activities performed by offshore support teams.
• Act as a key point of contact between the local entity, finance teams, external advisors, auditors, and other stakeholders.
• Liaise with public administrations and regulatory authorities when required.
• Monitor corporate insurance requirements and related administrative activities.
• Identify opportunities to improve financial processes, controls, and operational efficiency.

What you need to succeed

Required:

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related field.
• Minimum 2 to 3 years of experience in accounting, finance, or a similar role.
• Experience working across multiple areas of accounting rather than within a highly specialized function.
• Practical exposure to tax-related activities such as VAT, Intrastat, tax documentation preparation, or compliance support.
• Solid understanding of accounting principles and financial processes.
• Experience supporting audits, financial reporting, and compliance activities.
• Fluent English, with the ability to communicate confidently with international stakeholders by phone and in day-to-day business interactions.
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
• High level of autonomy, reliability, and attention to detail.
• Proactive mindset with strong problem-solving skills and a collaborative approach.

Preferred:

• Experience working with SAP.
• Experience working with shared service centers, business process outsourcing teams, or international finance organizations.
• Exposure to treasury activities, payroll-related accounting topics, and employee expense processes.
