Job summary

Maersk is seeking a Lead Electrical & Automation specialist to manage the electrical scope for major vessel projects across the fleet. You will act as technical authority, ensuring safe, compliant solutions and driving innovation in vessel design and operation.

Responsibilities include leading design reviews, coordinating with shipyards and suppliers, and guiding commissioning and sea trials to meet schedule, quality and cost targets.

Qualifications

• Degree or equivalent in electrical/marine engineering.
• Significant shipbuilding or marine engineering experience.
• Experience with design reviews, FATs, commissioning and sea trials.

• Own the electrical and automation scope for assigned vessel projects from concept to handover.
• Develop technical specifications, standards and internal requirements.
• Lead design reviews and coordinate with shipyards, suppliers, and stakeholders.
• Review and approve electrical system designs, load balance, protection concepts and automation equipment.
• Support inspections, FATs, commissioning, sea trials and operational follow-up.

...Lead Electrical & Automation scope of major vessel projects across the fleet, including newbuilding, retrofit, upgrade and technology development initiatives. Act as technical authority for assigned systems and ensure solutions are delivered safely, compliantly and in accordance with Maersk standards while driving innovation and continuous improvement across vessel designs and operational performance.Key ResponsibilitiesOwn the electrical and automation scope for assigned projects from concept development and specification through design, implementation and handover.Develop and maintain technical specifications, standards and internal requirements.Lead design reviews, plan approval activities and technical clarifications with shipyards, suppliers, engineering partners and internal stakeholders.Review and approve electrical system designs, load balance calculations, protection concepts, automation systems and equipment selections.Coordinate with Classification Societies and Flag Administrations to secure approvals and compliance.Support project execution through inspections, FATs , commissioning, sea trials and operational follow-up as relevant.Resolve technical issues and drive decisions to maintain schedule, quality, performance and cost targets.Capture lessons learned and ensure continuous improvement across projects and vessel classes .Support evaluation, development and implementation of new technologies related to electrification, automation, digitalisation, energy management and decarbonisation.Contribute to future vessel concepts and fleet development by identifying opportunities, challenging established solutions and bringing new ideas into vessel design and operationCritical CompetenciesA strong technical foundation. Able to challenge shipyards, suppliers and designers while maintaining constructive relationships and project momentum. Demonstrates sound engineering acumen , commercial awareness and a structured approach to problem solving. Understands the full vessel lifecycle and can balance safety, performance, operability, maintainability and cost. Works effectively across disciplines and drives alignment between stakeholders through efficient communication .Qualifications & ExperienceDegree in Electrical Engineering, Marine Engineering or similar.Significant experience from shipbuilding, ship management, marine engineering or technical fleet support .Strong knowledge of marine power generation and distribution, automation, navigation, communication and safety systems.Experience with design review, plan approval, FATs , commissioning and sea trials and/or retrofit implementation .Ability to manage suppliers , contractors and engineering partners.Willingness to travel internationally.
