Job summary

Maersk is seeking a Lead Electrical & Automation engineer for major vessel projects, covering newbuilds, retrofits and tech development. You will be the technical authority for electrical and automation systems, ensuring safe, compliant and high-performance solutions.

You will own the scope from concept through handover, review designs, coordinate with yards and suppliers, and support FATs, commissioning and sea trials with international travel (20–40 days/year).

Qualifications

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering or Marine Engineering (or similar) is required.
  • Significant shipbuilding/ship management/marine engineering experience.
  • Strong knowledge of marine power generation and distribution, automation, navigation, communication and safety systems.
  • Experience with design reviews, plan approval, FATs, commissioning and sea trials and/or retrofit implementation.
  • Ability to manage suppliers, contractors and engineering partners.
  • Willingness to travel internationally (20–40 days per year).

Responsibilities

  • Own the electrical and automation scope for assigned projects from concept to handover.
  • Develop and maintain technical specifications, standards and internal requirements.
  • Lead design reviews, plan approvals and technical clarifications with yards, suppliers and internal stakeholders.
  • Review and approve electrical system designs, load balance, protection concepts, automation systems and equipment selections.
  • Coordinate with Classification Societies and Flag Administrations for approvals and compliance.
  • Support project execution through inspections, FATs, commissioning, sea trials and follow-up.
  • Resolve technical issues and drive decisions to maintain schedule, quality, and cost targets.
  • Capture lessons learned and drive continuous improvement across projects and vessel classes.
  • Support evaluation and implementation of new technologies related to electrification, automation, digitalisation, energy management and decarbonisation.
  • Contribute to future vessel concepts and fleet development by proposing new ideas.
