Nilfisk’s Digital Product department is hiring its first Solution Architect to unify our product landscape and define target architecture. You will own cross-team decisions, shape shared building blocks, and set patterns and standards that teams actually use.
You’ll collaborate with security, DevOps and product owners to deliver scalable, secure and operable solutions. Expect to coach teams, document decisions and diagrams, and drive architectural governance across portfolios, ensuring a common
Nilfisk’s Digital Product department builds the software around the machines: customer portals, connected-machine and fleet services, mobile apps, service and field tooling, internal applications for our own colleagues. Today that is cross-functional product teams working on different products, and it is growing.
We are hiring our first Solution Architect to make those products add up to one landscape rather than separate ones. You will define the target architecture, and the shared building blocks our teams design within. You will also be the person the organisation comes to when a new idea, product or roadmap needs an architectural answer, and the person who says, clearly and early, what it will take.
Our product teams are cross-functional and durable. A Product Owner, UX and engineers own a problem area end to end, from discovery through to running it in production. They make their own technical decisions inside their boundary, and we intend to keep it that way.
That shapes this role in a specific way. You are not an approval gate, and you do not design other teams’ services for them. You own the decisions that cross team boundaries, and for everything else you make the good path the easy path: clear patterns, reusable building blocks, sensible defaults, and documentation developers actually read. A team should build within your architecture because it is the fastest route to something that lasts, not because someone mandated it.
The target architecture for the Digital Product portfolio, and a realistic roadmap to get there from where we are
The principles, reference architectures and design standards teams work within, and the boundaries between products and teams
The shared building blocks: integration and event patterns, API standards, identity, and how customer, product and service data is owned and shared across products
Architectural evaluation of new work: proposals, roadmaps, partner technologies. What fits, what it takes to build, what it reuses, what it breaks, what it costs to run. A clear early answer with the reasoning attached
Honest assessment of what we already have, on a regular cadence, and a clear statement of what needs to change
Security, GDPR privacy by design and operability built into the architecture from the start, working with our Security team and our DevOps function on how solutions are built, released and run
Design review for internal teams and external development partners, early enough that the feedback still matters
The architecture record: decisions written down, documentation and diagrams kept current
Growing architectural judgement in the teams, through coaching and pairing, so it does not all live with one person
Say no with a rationale, and say yes quickly when it is a yes. Both matter
Be clear about uncertainty. A rough estimate with an honest error bar is worth more to us than a precise number that turns out to be wrong
Translate trade-offs into business terms for Product Owners and management, without flattening the technical substance
Write things down. Decision records and current diagrams are part of the work, not admin that comes after it
Essential
Substantial experience as a solution architect across a portfolio of products, including setting the architecture other teams build within
A track record of evaluating proposals and existing solutions and giving an organisation a clear architectural answer with a rationale. We will ask you to walk us through what you assessed, what you recommended, and what actually changed as a result
Hands-on depth in modern application architecture: APIs, event-driven integration, microservices where they earn their keep and modular monoliths where they do not, and the judgement to tell which is which
Production experience with cloud-native architecture on Microsoft Azure, including the platform services, data stores and integration services you would actually reach for
Experience designing user-facing digital products (web, mobile, portals) and integrating them with enterprise systems such as ERP and CRM
Experience working inside an enterprise architecture you do not control, aligning product architecture with IT-owned systems, standards and governance
Professional English, written and spoken
Also valuable
Data architecture in a product context: modelling, ownership, sharing across products, privacy by design
Application security and identity in practice: authentication, authorisation, secret handling
Designing for operability, resilience and cost where teams run what they build
Working with external development partners, including reviewing their designs and deliverables
Connected products, telemetry or IoT at scale
Experience in an organisation moving from project delivery to product teams
