Job description

Service Technician and Installation Supervisor

FERRUM A/S

About the position
Ferrum is looking for an experienced and hands-on Service Technician and Installation Supervisor who can take responsibility for the installation, start-up and servicing of individual machines and complete filling lines at our customers' sites. We supply solutions for the production and filling of beer and soft drinks, including process equipment, filling machines, conveyors and associated utility systems.
You will have a key role at customer sites, combining hands-on work with the coordination of installation, connection, testing and commissioning activities. The position requires solid industry experience and extensive travel. Assignments will mainly be in Denmark and elsewhere in Europe, and you must be prepared for overnight stays, changing working hours and work carried out during production shutdowns.
Your main responsibilities

  • Plan and carry out the installation, mechanical assembly and run-in of new machines and complete filling lines.
  • Act as Installation Supervisor and coordinate Ferrum technicians, customer personnel, subcontractors and other equipment suppliers on site.
  • Ensure correct positioning, levelling and mechanical integration of machines, conveyors, piping, platforms and associated equipment.
  • Carry out and verify pneumatic connections and assist with the connection of process media and utilities such as compressed air, water, CO2, nitrogen, steam, cooling and CIP.
  • Participate in testing, FAT/SAT, commissioning, production start-up and performance runs in close cooperation with project management, automation specialists and the customer.
  • Systematically troubleshoot mechanical and pneumatic faults and carry out basic fault-finding on electrical signals, sensors, drives and PLC-related issues.
  • Perform service, inspections, preventive maintenance, repairs, modifications and format changeovers on existing systems.
  • Identify the root causes of downtime and quality issues and recommend spare parts, maintenance activities and technical improvements.
  • Train customer operators and maintenance personnel in safe operation, cleaning, changeovers and routine maintenance
  • Document progress, working hours, deviations, outstanding items and completed work in daily site and service reports.
  • Ensure that all work is performed safely and in accordance with applicable safety requirements, customer site rules and relevant hygiene and food-production requirements.
  • Provide practical feedback to the project, engineering and service teams to support the continuous improvement of future solutions and installations.
Your professional background
  • You have a relevant technical qualification, for example as an industrial mechanic, marine engineer, metal fabricator, automation technician or similar. Extensive relevant industry experience may compensate for a different educational background.
  • You have several years of hands-on experience with the installation, servicing and commissioning of machinery or complete lines for the beverage, brewery, food or packaging industry.
  • You have in-depth knowledge of filling lines and preferably experience with fillers, cappers, can seamers, conveyors, mixers/carbonators, pasteurisation, CIP and utility equipment.
  • Experience from a manufacturer or service organisation such as Krones, KHS, Sidel, GEA or another supplier of process and filling lines would be a clear advantage.
  • You are able to read and work from mechanical drawings, layouts, P&IDs, pneumatic diagrams, manuals and technical documentation.
  • You have strong mechanical expertise and can perform precise alignment, installation, adjustment and systematic troubleshooting.
  • Knowledge of electrical systems, instrumentation, variable frequency drives, sensors and Siemens PLC/HMI systems is an advantage, but this is not a dedicated PLC programming role.
  • You can communicate professionally in written and spoken English. Danish or another European language would be an advantage.
  • You hold a valid driving licence and a valid EU/EEA passport, and are able to travel and work throughout Denmark and Europe without significant restrictions.
Personal qualities
  • You take ownership of your assignments and maintain an overview, even when schedules are tight or several disciplines are working simultaneously.
  • You are hands-on, solution-oriented and comfortable working independently away from the office.
  • You communicate clearly and respectfully with customers, colleagues and subcontractors and can lead site meetings in a professional manner.
  • You work in a structured manner and follow up on agreements, open items, safety, quality and documentation.
  • You are flexible regarding travel, working hours and changing priorities and understand that start-ups and production-critical service assignments may require additional effort.
We offer
  • A permanent position with significant influence on the successful delivery of international customer projects.
  • A varied working day involving new installations, commissioning, service and technical problem-solving.
  • The opportunity to work with complete solutions - from process systems and utilities to the finished filling line.
  • Close cooperation with project managers, engineers, automation specialists, suppliers and customers' technical organisations.
  • An informal company with short decision-making paths, a high level of responsibility and a strong focus on quality and professional integrity.
  • Salary and employment terms based on qualifications, together with relevant travel conditions and work equipment.
