Job summary

Novonesis is seeking a Senior Research Scientist to advance sequencing capabilities, digital scientific workflows, and AI readiness across the organization. You will design and execute molecular biology experiments, mentor lab staff, and lead data-centric initiatives across Benchling and LIMS.

The role bridges lab science, data innovation, and technology development to accelerate microbial research and product development, with on-site collaboration between Hørsholm and Lyngby laboratories.

Qualifications

Ph.D. in molecular biology, microbiology, biotechnology, genomics, bioinformatics, or a related life science discipline.
Significant experience in industrial R&D or a comparable scientific research environment.
Demonstrated expertise with Oxford Nanopore Technologies (ONT) and next‑generation sequencing workflows.
Strong molecular biology knowledge and hands-on laboratory experience.
Ability to connect laboratory methods, sequencing technologies, data flows and downstream use of data, and to develop scalable scientific workflows that support traceability, FAIR data principles and AI‑ready datasets.
Experience applying AI- or machine-learning-enabled approaches within molecular analytics or scientific workflows.
Automation mindset with experience optimizing laboratory workflows through automation, scripting and digital solutions. Practical bioinformatics and data analysis capabilities enabling foundational analyses and effective collaboration with bioinformatics specialists.
Professional proficiency in English.

Responsibilities

Design, execute, troubleshoot, interpret, and document molecular biology and sequencing experiments.
Work hands-on in the laboratory, supporting and mentoring laboratory technicians and ensuring workflows are scientifically robust, scalable, traceable, and automation-ready.
Contribute to scientific innovation, intellectual property generation, stakeholder communication, and departmental priorities through leadership roles such as Service/queue management, workstream lead and backlog representative.
Drive and further develop Oxford Nanopore Technologies (ONT)-based sequencing capabilities and workflows supporting microbial research and product development.
Lead the development of strategic scientific data resources, structured data flows, and digital workflows across Benchling and LIMS platforms.
Ensure high-quality data capture that supports FAIR data principles, downstream reuse, and AI-ready datasets.
