Job summary

Novonesis is seeking a Senior Research Scientist to advance sequencing capabilities, digital scientific workflows, and AI readiness across the organization. You will design and execute molecular biology experiments, mentor lab staff, and lead data-centric initiatives across Benchling and LIMS.

The role bridges lab science, data innovation, and technology development to accelerate microbial research and product development, with on-site collaboration between Hørsholm and Lyngby laboratories.

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in molecular biology, microbiology, biotechnology, genomics, bioinformatics, or a related life science discipline.
  • Significant experience in industrial R&D or a comparable scientific research environment.
  • Demonstrated expertise with Oxford Nanopore Technologies (ONT) and next‑generation sequencing workflows.
  • Strong molecular biology knowledge and hands-on laboratory experience.
  • Ability to connect laboratory methods, sequencing technologies, data flows and downstream use of data, and to develop scalable scientific workflows that support traceability, FAIR data principles and AI‑ready datasets.
  • Experience applying AI- or machine-learning-enabled approaches within molecular analytics or scientific workflows.
  • Automation mindset with experience optimizing laboratory workflows through automation, scripting and digital solutions. Practical bioinformatics and data analysis capabilities enabling foundational analyses and effective collaboration with bioinformatics specialists.
  • Professional proficiency in English.

Join Molecular Analytics, part of Advanced Analytics & Omics within Microbe & Culture Research R&D, where we develop cutting‑edge scientific capabilities that enable innovation in microbial products.

As our new Senior Research Scientist, you will play a key role in strengthening sequencing capabilities, digital scientific workflows, and AI readiness across Novonesis. Working alongside laboratory technicians, scientists, bioinformaticians, automation specialists, and data scientists, you will help bridge laboratory science, data innovation, and technology development to accelerate microbial research and product development.

We are a collaborative team of 14 dedicated scientists and laboratory technicians who value scientific curiosity, knowledge sharing, psychological safety, and a shared commitment to turning complex scientific questions into practical solutions.

The role & your impact

This is a multidisciplinary role combining hands‑on scientific execution, technologyinnovation, data interpretation, and cross‑functional collaboration. You will have operational and tactical impact while contributing to longer‑term scientific and digital capabilities that support innovation across R&D.

Your Key Responsibilities In This Role

Additional Skills & Interests We Value

The following qualifications are considered advantageous but are not required:

  • Experience with single‑cell genomics or transcriptomics.
  • Multi‑omics integration, including genomic, metagenomic, transcriptomic, and related datasets.
  • Experience in microbial discovery, strain characterization, or bioprospecting.
  • Knowledge of bacterial transcriptomics and transcriptomic data interpretation.
  • Experience working across multiple sequencing platforms, including short‑read technologies.

Working conditions

The position is based in Hørsholm, Denmark, with regular collaboration across Molecular Analytics laboratories in both Hørsholm and Lyngby.

Due to the hands‑on laboratory nature of the role, regular on‑site presence is required. Flexibility between sites is expected based on project and operational needs. Remote work is possible when compatible with laboratory activities and project requirements.
