Job description

MITS Industries is establishing an R&D and design site in Copenhagen focused on advanced RF systems, signal intelligence, aerospace technologies, and mission-critical product development.

The site will build core engineering capabilities in RF and microwave hardware, antenna systems, RF testing and characterization, rugged mechanical integration, and the industrialization of complex radio-electronic systems.

The Copenhagen team will work closely with strategic partners and engineering teams across Europe, playing a leading role in the development, validation, and industrialization of advanced technologies for defense, aerospace, and other demanding applications.

One of the initial focus areas will be the development of an advanced aerospace signal intelligence product platform. The work will cover RF and system architecture, antenna system design, signal acquisition, embedded control, laboratory validation, mechanical integration, integration with the satellite platform, and preparation for production and field deployment.

The ambition is to build a strong technical design site capable of taking complex RF products, modules, and platforms from architecture and detailed design through prototyping, testing, validation, industrialization, and deployment.

About the role

MITS Industries is looking for a Senior RF / Microwave Hardware Engineer to join the core Copenhagen R&D team and help build the site’s RF and microwave design capability.

You will design and develop RF and microwave hardware and subsystems, including receiver front ends, amplification, filtering, mixers and local-oscillator circuitry, RF signal routing, and PCB- and module-level implementation. The work covers RF performance analysis and design trade-offs, circuit architecture, schematic design, component selection, circuit and electromagnetic simulation, RF PCB implementation and layout, prototyping, debugging, and performance validation.

You will work closely with system architects, antenna systems engineers, SDR and signal processing engineers, RF test and characterization engineers, mechanical design engineers, and partner engineering teams. The role requires deep RF and microwave design expertise, technical ownership, and hands-on implementation experience, taking designs from concept through prototyping and validation to documented, manufacturable RF modules and subsystems.

Key responsibilities
  • Translate system requirements into RF hardware architecture, specifications, performance budgets, and design trade-offs.
  • Design RF and microwave circuits, modules, and signal-acquisition paths, including amplification, filtering, switching, mixing, frequency synthesis, gain control, and supporting bias, power, and control circuitry.
  • Perform RF performance analysis covering sensitivity, selectivity, gain, noise figure, dynamic range, linearity, stability, spurious responses, and interference resilience.
  • Create RF schematics, select components, and own RF PCB implementation, including laminate and material selection, stack-up definition, and layout, with controlled-impedance routing, transmission lines, grounding, shielding, isolation, and high-frequency interconnects.
  • Perform circuit and electromagnetic simulations, optimize designs, and correlate simulated performance with laboratory measurements.
  • Lead prototypes bring-up, tuning, debugging, and design verification in collaboration with RF test and characterization engineers.
  • Integrate RF hardware with antenna systems, data-conversion interfaces, mechanical assemblies, and platform interfaces.
  • Contribute to design verification, EMC/EMI assessment, environmental qualification, reliability evaluation, and system-level validation.
  • Prepare hardware specifications, design documentation, BOMs, analysis reports, design-review materials, test inputs, and production-release documentation.
  • Own technical decisions related to component and supplier selection, manufacturability, testability, lifecycle risks, and design-risk mitigation.
  • Collaborate with system, antenna, signal-processing, test, mechanical, manufacturing, and partner engineering teams.
Required qualifications and experience
  • Master’s degree in electrical or electronic engineering, RF/microwave engineering, applied physics, or a related field. A PhD is an advantage.
  • 7+ years of professional experience in RF and microwave hardware design.
  • Strong hands-on experience developing RF circuits, multilayer PCBs, modules, and subsystems from schematic design and simulation through layout, bring-up, tuning, and validation.
  • Experience with receiver architectures and RF signal paths, including low-noise and gain stages, filters, switches, mixers, oscillators, PLL-based frequency synthesis, and supporting bias, power, and control circuitry.
  • Strong understanding of RF system budgeting, chain analysis, and frequency planning, including gain, noise figure, sensitivity, selectivity, dynamic range, P1dB, IP3, phase noise, stability, spurious responses, isolation, and impedance matching.
  • Practical experience with RF PCB implementation, including laminate and material selection, stack-up definition, controlled-impedance routing, transmission lines, grounding, shielding, isolation, and high-frequency interconnects.
  • Hands-on experience with schematic capture and RF PCB layout using an industry standard ECAD tool such as Altium Designer, Cadence Allegro/OrCAD, or equivalent.
  • Proficiency with one or more RF circuit and electromagnetic simulation tools, such as Keysight ADS, Cadence AWR Microwave Office, Ansys HFSS, or CST Studio Suite.
  • Hands-on experience with RF measurement equipment, including vector network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, signal generators, and oscilloscopes.
  • Demonstrated ability to bring up, tune, troubleshoot, and validate RF hardware and correlate measured results with simulations.
  • Experience taking RF hardware through prototype manufacturing, assembly, design verification, environmental requirements and qualification, and production release.
Nice to have
  • Experience with signal-intelligence, direction-finding, spectrum-monitoring, or radio-surveillance systems.
  • Experience with SDR-based radio architecture.
  • Experience with coherent or multichannel RF systems, including channel matching, phase stability, and synchronization.
  • Experience developing aerospace, mission-critical, or ruggedized electronic systems.
  • Experience developing RF and microwave hardware operating at frequencies up to and beyond 18GHz.
Success in the first 6 months
  • Take technical ownership of one or more RF modules or subsystem areas.
  • Establish the initial architecture, design approach, and development plan for the assigned RF scope.
  • Deliver reviewed schematics, simulations, layout inputs, and supporting design documentation.
  • Bring up and validate initial hardware prototypes, with clear correlation between expected and measured performance.
  • Identify key RF, implementation, and integration risks and define practical mitigation actions.
  • Establish effective technical interfaces with system, antenna, signal-processing, test, mechanical, manufacturing, and partner engineering teams.
