Job summary

NES Fircroft is seeking a Senior HV / Commissioning Engineer to lead high voltage electrical engineering, testing and commissioning on a major project in Fredericia, Denmark. You will coordinate with project teams, clients and subcontractors to ensure safe, efficient delivery aligned with specifications and quality standards.

The role requires a third-level Electrical Engineering degree and 2+ years in HV energy, power or renewables, with hands-on HV testing, protection and control knowledge.

Qualifications

• Third-level qualification in Electrical Engineering.
• At least two years' experience in Electrical Project Engineering in HV energy, power or renewable sectors.
• Practical experience with HV electrical systems, testing and commissioning.
• Knowledge of HV substations, protection and control systems, and relevant standards.
• Ability to interpret electrical schematics, single-line diagrams and specifications.

Responsibilities

• Develop and review HV system drawings and documentation.
• Conduct HV system studies including protection coordination and fault-level analysis.
• Lead pre-commissioning and commissioning of HV systems, including GIS/AIS substations.
• Oversee testing, commissioning and handover activities across project lifecycles.
• Provide technical guidance on HV and LV equipment, control and protection systems.
• Assist in procurement of electrical equipment and components.
• Prepare technical specifications, method statements and risk assessments.
• Monitor progress against project programme and report status.
• Coordinate with clients, designers and subcontractors to ensure delivery.

The Opportunity We are currently seeking an experienced Senior High Voltage (HV) / Commissioning Engineer to join a leading international engineering contractor delivering complex, large-scale projects across the data centre, pharmaceutical, energy and renewable sectors.

This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in the delivery of a major project in Fredericia, Denmark, taking responsibility for HV electrical engineering, testing and commissioning activities from design review through to final handover.

The successful candidate will work closely with project teams, clients, designers and subcontractors to ensure electrical systems are delivered safely, efficiently and in accordance with project specifications and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and review electrical schematic drawings, single-line diagrams and HV system documentation.
• Conduct and review HV system studies, including protection coordination, arc flash, voltage regulation, load flow and fault-level analysis.
• Lead and support the pre-commissioning and commissioning of high-voltage electrical systems, including GIS and AIS substations.
• Oversee testing, commissioning and handover activities for electrical systems across the project lifecycle.
• Provide detailed electrical engineering expertise across HV and LV equipment, control systems and protection systems.
• Support the specification, selection and procurement of electrical equipment and components.
• Prepare and review technical specifications, enquiry documentation, method statements and risk assessments.
• Monitor engineering and commissioning progress against the project programme and provide regular progress reports.
• Manage technical queries and resolve electrical engineering issues arising on site.
• Coordinate with clients, design teams, contractors and other project stakeholders to ensure effective delivery.
• Assist in the preparation of technical submissions, contractual documentation and construction drawing packages.
• Review engineering designs to ensure safety, reliability, quality, cost-effectiveness and sustainability.
• Plan, schedule and coordinate engineering and commissioning activities to meet key project milestones.
• Provide technical guidance and supervision to engineers and technicians where required.
• Ensure all work complies with project-specific health, safety, environmental and quality requirements.
• Support the wider project team with technical issues and other duties relevant to successful project delivery.

Requirements To be considered for this opportunity, you should have:

• A third-level qualification in Electrical Engineering or a closely related discipline.
• At least two years' experience in an Electrical Project Engineering role within the HV energy, power or renewable energy sectors.
• Practical experience with HV electrical systems, including testing, commissioning and associated engineering documentation.
• Knowledge of HV substations, protection and control systems, and relevant electrical engineering standards.
• The ability to interpret electrical schematics, single-line diagrams and technical specifications.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Excellent organisational skills, attention to detail and the ability to manage competing priorities.
• The ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams and influence stakeholders at different levels.
• A proactive approach to problem-solving, safety and quality.
• The flexibility to work on site in Fredericia, Denmark.
