Job summary

Maersk is seeking a Lead Engineer - Data & AI to join our Copenhagen team. You will own architecture for major data platform components, define migration paths, and write production-grade code that proves design viability.

As a senior individual contributor, you will shape how we approach data contracts, lineage, and agentic tooling, collaborating with Product, Business and Engineering Managers to balance architectural ambition with delivery risks.

Qualifications

• Experience designing and delivering platform architectures used by multiple teams.
• Strong knowledge of distributed systems, partitioning, and schema evolution.
• Design for reliability, latency, cost, security and operability from the start.
• Experience migrating live systems to new architectures while keeping them running.
• Wrote design documents that enable others to implement the solution.

Responsibilities

• Own the architecture for major platform components and data products, from storage through to the application and agent layer.
• Define target architectures and migration paths with emphasis on open standards and interoperability.
• Write and deploy production code; build the difficult components and reference implementations.
• Make build-versus-buy decisions with cost, load and dependency risk in mind.
• Design foundations: data contracts, lineage, schema evolution, access control and cost management.
• Set agentic engineering practices across the group, including internal tooling and standards for generated code.
• Tackle hard or ambiguous technical problems and drive them to a working resolution.
• Raise engineering bar through design reviews, code reviews and mentoring.
• Collaborate with Product, Business stakeholders and Engineering Managers on sequencing and risk.
