Job summary

ESS is seeking a Scientific HPC System Officer to join the Data Systems and Technology Group in Kongens Lyngby, Denmark. The role focuses on deploying and evolving scientific computing infrastructure for a leading European neutron science facility.

You will develop automation, manage complex projects, and collaborate across teams and cultures, using your HPC and data systems expertise to keep systems reliable and secure.

Qualifications

• Master's degree or PhD in a relevant technical discipline.
• Typically 4–7 years of professional experience with a Master's degree, or 2+ years post-doctoral with a PhD.
• Strong knowledge of HPC, scientific computing infra, and large-scale data systems.
• Experience managing technical projects with limited supervision.

Responsibilities

• Drive deployment of new IT hardware and services for scientific computing.
• Develop and improve automation and deployment scripts for infrastructure.
• Contribute to design and evolution of HPC infrastructure for a large international facility.
• Manage technical projects and initiatives with independence.
• Investigate and resolve complex technical issues beyond standard solutions.
• Serve as technical contact and provide guidance to colleagues.
• Monitor, investigate, and report hardware and service incidents.
• Identify and report information security risks and incidents.
• Contribute to process improvements, standards, and procedures.
• Support knowledge sharing with junior scientists and engineers.
