Mer information

Interfacing experimental and computational materials science in neutron diffraction

The European Spallation Source (ESS) invites applications for aComputational Instrument Scientist for Diffraction at theData Management and Scientific Computing (DMSC) centre in Copenhagen, Denmark. In this role, you will be central to developing world‑leading scientific computing capabilities that support the ESS diffraction instruments and enable high‑impact science.

ESS is a “Big Science” project that will become the world’s most powerful neutron source when fully operational in 2027. The facility will enable researchers to probe atomic and molecular structure, strain, phase composition, and structural dynamics in advanced materials with unprecedented detail—supporting transformative research across materials science, engineering, energy, catalysis, and crystallography.

About the role

Through collaboration with developer teams, instrument scientists, and peers, theComputational Instrument Scientist leads and facilitates the development of scientific computing solutions and services that help users generate robust, publishable results from experiments at the ESS diffraction instruments.

Location

DMSC is located on the DTU campus inKongens Lyngby north of Copenhagen. We offer a dynamic, international, and highly collaborative environment with more than 45 DMSC colleagues in Copenhagen and 600 ESS colleagues in Lund, representing nearly 60 nationalities.
