About the Role
Do you enjoy taking technical ownership—not just managing the plan, but helping turn requirements into working systems?
Thunderstrike Aviation is a fast-growing aerospace scale-up moving from early development and prototypes into testing, industrialisation and production. As our engineering organisation expands, we are looking for a Project Engineer who can help build both the UAV platforms and the practical engineering structures required to deliver them.
You will drive engineering development and integration activities across our UAV systems, working closely with specialists in mechanical engineering, electronics, embedded software, communications, testing, quality and production.
This is a hands‑on engineering role with project responsibility. You will contribute to technical solutions, resolve integration challenges, work directly with suppliers and help bring systems from requirements and prototypes through testing and operational readiness.
You will also have the opportunity to influence how engineering projects are executed as Thunderstrike scales. Planning and coordination are important, but they support the technical delivery rather than replace it.
Key Responsibilities
Engineering & Technical Delivery
- Take ownership of defined engineering work packages, from requirements and technical clarification through development, integration, verification and delivery.
- Translate requirements into technical specifications, interface descriptions and actionable engineering tasks in collaboration with systems engineering and discipline specialists.
- Contribute directly to technical reviews, engineering analysis and practical problem-solving, balancing performance, reliability, manufacturability and delivery constraints.
Integration, Testing & Documentation
- Work across mechanical, electrical, software and communications interfaces to identify dependencies and resolve integration issues.
- Help plan and execute prototype, integration and acceptance testing, investigate failures and follow corrective actions through to verified resolution.
- Produce and maintain technical documentation, including specifications, interface control documents, test records and engineering changes, keeping deliverables aligned with approved configurations.
- Maintain engineering plans in Microsoft Project, including work breakdown structures, dependencies, milestones and critical‑path activities.
- Engage with suppliers on technical requirements, proposed solutions, deliverables and acceptance criteria, following up on risks and delivery commitments.
- Coordinate with engineering, quality, procurement and production to keep work progressing and ensure technical evidence supports applicable compliance and approval requirements.
Your Background
- 7+ years of relevant experience in engineering, product development, systems integration or technical project delivery.
- An engineering background in mechanical, electrical, electronics, mechatronics, aerospace or systems engineering.
- Practical experience developing or integrating complex products involving both hardware and software.
- Experience taking responsibility for technical deliverables, resolving engineering issues and coordinating suppliers or multidisciplinary teams.
- Working knowledge of requirements management, configuration control, V-model development and verification and validation.
- Experience using Microsoft Project to manage engineering activities, dependencies and milestones.
- Strong communication skills in English and the ability to turn technical discussions into clear decisions and actions.
You do not need to be the deepest specialist in every discipline. You do need to understand how the parts interact, ask the right technical questions and take responsibility for moving the work forward.
Preferred Experience
Experience with UAVs, aerospace, defence, robotics or other complex, compliance-driven products would be valuable. Familiarity with requirements-management tools such as Visure, aerospace frameworks such as STANAG and EASA, or operational approval processes such as SORA or DVP is an advantage.
Why Join Thunderstrike Aviation?
- Take meaningful technical ownership of advanced UAV development and integration projects.
- Work closely with experienced specialists across hardware, software, communications and airframe engineering.
- Help shape engineering practices in a growing company, with direct influence on how technical challenges are solved.
- Follow your work beyond documentation and planning into prototypes, testing and real-world applications.
