Job summary

DTU BRIGHT invites applications for a postdoctoral researcher to lead experiments on fungal heterogeneity in solid-state fermentation. You will map spatial activity in fungal colonies, engineer strains, and develop imaging workflows while collaborating with international partners.

The role requires a PhD and a strong background in mycology, genetics, and advanced imaging. Start date early 2027, with a two-year contract in Denmark.

Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience in confocal microscopy ideally of fungi (required)
  • Experience with fungal genetic engineering (preferred)
  • Experience of cryosectioning or related methods (preferred)
  • Experience in automated image analysis (preferred)
  • Experience with DESI or CARS imaging (optional)
  • A strong interest in fungal biology and ecology (required)
  • Interest in public engagement and science communication (preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Take a leading role in planning, designing, and executing experiments
  • Coordinate activities with collaborators and external partners
  • Ensure timely progression of the research
  • Develop a fungal imaging workflow for solid-state fermentation samples
  • Genetic engineering of filamentous fungi
  • Visualize results and communicate findings to diverse audiences
  • Publish in high-impact journals and present at conferences
  • Collaborate across disciplines and support open research culture
