Job summary

DTU Fødevareinstituttet invites applications for a PhD scholarship in fungal genomics with a focus on correlating genomes to phenotypes and developing online webservices. This three-year scholarship is part of the GPAP project and collaboration with DTU Bioengineering.

The successful candidate will perform whole genome sequencing of fungi, develop a web-based species identification tool, and contribute to international collaborations. Starting 1 February 2027, full-time position.

Qualifications

• Strong coding skills in Python and Unix-based environments.
• Experience with machine and deep learning workflows.
• Knowledge of microbial genomics and phylogenetic analysis.
• Familiarity with bioinformatic algorithms and tools.
• Experience with DNA-based workload from microbes.
• Two-year master's degree or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Develop web-based tool for identifying fungal taxa and toxin gene clusters.
• Perform complete genome sequencing and analyses to build reference databases.
• Conduct phenotype-genotype association studies on Fusarium isolates.
• Analyses of outputs, draw conclusions and present results.
• Publish reports and contribute to project meetings.
