Job summary

DTU National Food Institute in Denmark seeks a PhD candidate in fungal genomics focusing on linking genomes to phenotypes and building online web services. You will perform whole-genome sequencing of fungi, culture, and phenotypic characterization, and implement tools in our online platform.

The ideal candidate has strong coding skills in Python, experience with Unix-based systems, and knowledge of machine learning.

Qualifications

• Proven ability to code in Python and work on Unix-based systems.
• Experience with machine learning or deep learning techniques.
• Strong background in microbial or fungal genomics.
• Familiarity with bioinformatic algorithms and workflows.
• Experience with DNA-based workloads on microbes.

Responsibilities

• Develop a web-based tool for fungal species identification and toxin-gene cluster detection.
• Perform complete genome sequencing and analyses to build an expanded reference genome database.
• Collaborate with group members to analyze results, draw conclusions, and present outputs at meetings.
• Publish results through reports and manuscripts; contribute to grant proposals.
• Engage in planning and coordination of research strategies and projects.
