Job summary

Caljan is seeking a Lead Automation R&D Engineer to shape the next generation of automation solutions. You will own the automation design direction within your product area and drive complex development from concept to release.

You will define software architecture, support product innovation, and ensure technical excellence across the lifecycle while collaborating with teams across Denmark and internationally.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Automation Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related BSc/MSc.
  • Experience with automation systems and industrial software development.
  • Knowledge of PLC platforms such as Siemens TIA Portal, Rockwell, ABB or similar.
  • Experience using electrical design tools like EPLAN, AutoCAD Electrical, PCSCHEMATIC, etc.
  • Structured and analytical approach to problem solving.
  • Excellent collaboration and communication in international environments.
  • Fluent technical English; Danish is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Define and develop software architecture for current and future products.
  • Lead technical alignment and standardization of software platforms across Caljan.
  • Drive automation and software development activities for customer solutions and R&D projects.
  • Support sales with technical expertise, solution design, specifications, and costs.
  • Collaborate with international engineering teams to create modular, reusable automation solutions.
  • Participate in innovation initiatives involving robotics, computer vision, AI, automation.
  • Oversee software testing, machine testing, and product certifications.
  • Provide technical guidance to colleagues and field technicians.

As we continue to expand our portfolio of Robotic and Automated Products (RAP), we are looking for a Lead Automation R&D Engineer to help shape the next generation of technologies and solutions.

This is a key role within our R&D organization, combining technical leadership, innovation, software architecture, and product development. You will have a significant influence on the technological direction of our automation solutions while collaborating with talented colleagues across our global organization.

Your role

As our Lead Automation R&D Engineer, you will take ownership of automation design direction within your product area and drive complex development activities from concept through release. You will help define software architecture, support product innovation, and ensure technical excellence across the product lifecycle.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Defining and developing software architecture for current and future products.

  • Leading technical alignment and standardization of software platforms across Caljan.

  • Driving automation and software development activities for both customer solutions and R&D projects.

  • Supporting sales teams with technical expertise, solution design, specifications, and cost estimates.

  • Collaborating with international engineering teams to create modular and reusable automation solutions.

  • Participating in innovation initiatives involving robotics, computer vision, automation, and AI technologies.

  • Overseeing software testing, machine testing, and product certifications.

  • Providing technical guidance and support to colleagues, field technicians, and internal stakeholders.

Who are you?

You are passionate about automation technology and enjoy tackling complex technical challenges. You are equally comfortable working independently and collaborating with colleagues across functions and countries.

We imagine that you have:

  • A degree in Automation Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related BSc/MSc discipline.

  • Experience working with automation systems and industrial software development.

  • Strong knowledge of PLC programming platforms such as Siemens TIA Portal, Rockwell, ABB, or similar.

  • Experience using electrical design tools such as EPLAN, AutoCAD Electrical, PCSCHEMATIC, or equivalent.

  • A structured and analytical approach to problem-solving.

  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills in an international environment.

  • Fluent technical English. Preferably Danish as well.

Experience with robotics, computer vision, industrial software architecture, or AI technologies will be considered an advantage.

Location and travel

The position is based in Denmark and includes travel activities of up to approximately 60 days per year.
