Job description

About the role

As an Interactive Play Designer, you will join our journey in creating tomorrow’s interactive play experiences. You will be working in the intersection between physical and digital design and are expected to work across the entire design process including early-stage conceptual work to detailed ready-to-launch designs. Please note: This position is based in Billund, Denmark.

Core Responsibilities
  • Connect with our main consumer (kids) by empathizing with their needs and interests.
  • Develop the right level of prototypes to test, explore and validate the potential for enjoyable long-lasting play experiences.
  • You understand how to create interactive prototypes at different levels of fidelity.
  • Understand the key objectives for your own area and continuously align direction with your team and stakeholders.
  • Importantly, you are comfortable managing and being responsible for your own time and tasks.
  • Being a part of the design team and defining the creative directions of new concepts by making them tangible and playable, using LEGO system-in-play, consumer insights, competitor knowledge and previous experience.
  • Collaborate with colleagues by participating in and/or facilitating workshops, brainstorming sessions, and ideation boosts to generate new ideas/concepts/solutions to designs, as well as giving and receiving constructive feedback.
  • The ability to design within a variety of constraints (budget, frames, business objectives, technology feasibility etc.) and execute the right level of complexity vs. return on investment.
  • Play your part in our team succeeding LEGO Design is the home of more than 400 Designers of all trades and the nucleus of innovation for the LEGO Group. Our mission is to inspire and develop the builders of tomorrow.
Required Qualifications
  • Ideally, you have an educational background in Interaction Design or equivalent.
  • Moreover, you have: 3+ years of experience designing and conceptualizing connected toys and/or play experiences.
  • Ability to program and develop testable and playable prototypes using your coding capabilities.
  • We do not anticipate that you can deliver shippable products – our emphasis is to be able to quickly externalize play experiences and validate through kids testing.
  • Theoretical background in Interaction Design, Industrial Design, Human Computer Interaction, UX, Computer Science, Architecture, Game Design, or another relevant field.
  • Proven record in designing, testing, and validating based on an iterative prototyping approach.
  • A systematic approach to design and the ability to prioritize your work sharply and according to current business needs.
  • Experience taking designs from explorative conceptual phases all the way to product launch.
  • Communicative skills – both verbally and visually.
  • You can thoughtfully and concisely present your ideas to team members as well as internal and external stakeholders.
  • Having worked with products designed for kids or young adults is a plus but not a requirement.
