Job description

SYBO is part of the Miniclip family and known for the widely popular game, Subway Surfers - the most downloaded mobile game in the world, with over four and a half billion downloads. Located in the heart of Copenhagen, we aim to create playful moments that inspire our fans to care.

Hundreds of millions of players play Subway Surfers each month, and enjoy smooth gameplay, new features and a concept that’s now worked for over fourteen (Yes, 14!) years - and we’re looking for a talented Game Engineer to keep the fun going for years to come.

As a Game Engineer on Subway Surfers, you’ll work closely with engineers, designers, artists, and other disciplines to take ideas from concept through implementation and into the hands of the above-mentioned hundreds of millions of players. You’ll have the opportunity to take ownership, contribute to technical decisions, and help us continuously improve both the game and the way we build it.

Working with LiveOps lets you get instant feedback on your work - working with one of the largest LiveOps games makes it unique.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain gameplay features, systems, and content for Subway Surfers using Unity and C#
  • Collaborate with Designers, Artists, and other Engineers to take features from concept through implementation and release
  • Write clean, maintainable code and contribute to the long-term health of the Subway Surfers codebase
  • Review code and collaborate with other Engineers to share knowledge and maintain engineering quality
  • Debug and resolve technical issues across gameplay systems and live features
  • Contribute to improving the tools, workflows, and development practices used by the team
Life at SYBO
  • In your first month, you’ll get to know SYBO, Subway Surfers, our technology, and how the team works. You’ll work closely with the Technical Owner, Engineers, Designers, and Artists on the game team, familiarize yourself with the codebase and development pipeline, and start contributing to your first features.
  • In your first three months, you’ll be contributing independently to features and content and taking an active role in the team’s development process. You’ll participate in technical discussions around implementation, system design, and architecture and become increasingly comfortable working across the Subway Surfers codebase.
  • In your first twelve months, you’ll be a trusted and impactful member of the Subway Surfers team, contributing to the development of features and content from planning through release and helping shape technical solutions for the game - and you’ve received plenty of player feedback on things you’ve worked on!
Requirements
  • Strong knowledge of OOP languages, primarily C#
  • Professional experience developing games, ideally on mobile
  • Solid hands-on experience with Unity
  • Good understanding of software engineering principles, data structures, algorithms, and common design patterns
  • Experience collaborating with multiple disciplines to develop and deliver game features
  • Experience working with version control systems such as Git
  • Experience working in Agile methodologies
Bonus points
  • Experience working on a live game and regularly shipping new features and content
  • Experience developing or integrating client/server features and backend services
