Job description

We are seeking an experienced Hardware Engineer to drive the integration, technical ownership, and continuous improvement of the hardware platforms that enable GomSpace's satellite missions.

You will join our Satellite Systems Business Unit in Aalborg and play a central role in supporting satellite missions from proposal and electrical design through assembly, integration, testing, and delivery to customers worldwide. You will work closely with hardware designers, systems engineers, AIV engineers, manufacturing teams, and project managers while helping shape the future development of our hardware engineering capabilities.

Your Role

As experienced Hardware Engineer, you will act as the technical lead for the integration of electrical hardware and GomSpace products into satellite platforms.

Your key responsibilities include:

  • Own the technical integration of GomSpace products into nanosatellite and microsatellite missions.
  • Serve as a product expert for GomSpace hardware platforms, interfaces, functionality, configuration, and performance.
  • Drive technical troubleshooting and root-cause analysis during development, integration, testing, and customer projects.
  • Lead the integration and verification of new GomSpace products and third-party hardware within satellite platforms.
  • Define electrical interface solutions, schematic-level designs, harness concepts, and supporting hardware required for mission integration.
  • Coordinate prototyping, validation, documentation, and manufacturing introduction activities for new hardware solutions.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior and mid-level engineers.
  • Support technical decision-making and trade-off analyses across customer programmes and internal developments.
  • Contribute to process improvements, engineering standards, and product maturity initiatives across the organisation.
  • Support proposal activities and customer discussions by providing credible technical solutions, effort estimates, and engineering input.
  • Prepare technical documentation and communicate effectively in English, including technical reports, specifications, procedures, and interactions with international stakeholders.
What Success Looks Like

In the initial phase, success means:

  • Becoming a recognised technical expert on GomSpace's hardware portfolio.
  • Successfully leading hardware integration activities on active customer missions.
  • Resolving complex technical issues through systematic troubleshooting and engineering analysis.
  • Building strong working relationships with Satellite Systems HW Team, Products HW Team, AIV, Manufacturing, and Systems Engineering.
  • Supporting the growth and development of less experienced engineers.

Over time, you will be recognised as a trusted technical authority for hardware integration and product implementation, driving engineering excellence and helping scale GomSpace's hardware capabilities as our missions and teams continue to grow.

What You Bring

You are an experienced hardware engineer who enjoys solving technically demanding challenges and transforming complex products into reliable space systems.

You likely bring:

  • An MSc or BSc in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Mechatronics, Aerospace Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • 10+ years of experience in hardware design, hardware integration, electronics development, verification, or systems integration.
  • Strong knowledge of digital electronics, embedded hardware, and microcontroller-based systems.
  • Experience with hardware communication interfaces and buses, including RS485/-422, CAN, SPI, I²C, USB, Ethernet, Spacewire, or similar.
  • Experience in schematic capture and hardware development using tools such as Altium Designer or equivalent.
  • Understanding of PCB design principles, EMC-, grounding- and shielding considerations, manufacturing processes, and product industrialisation.
  • Experience with electrical integration, harness design, laboratory testing, and troubleshooting.
  • Practical understanding of power systems, communication systems, and embedded electronics.
  • Experience working with multidisciplinary engineering teams and complex technical projects.
  • Knowledge of space systems and ECSS standards would be a strong advantage.
  • Experience leading technical activities, mentoring engineers, or coordinating engineering teams would be considered a significant benefit.
Who You Are

You are pragmatic, technically curious, and motivated by solving challenging engineering problems.

You are known for:

  • Technical leadership – providing direction and guidance without necessarily having formal authority.
  • Systems thinking – understanding how individual hardware components contribute to mission success.
  • Problem solving – methodically analysing issues and driving them to resolution.
  • Collaboration – building strong relationships across engineering disciplines.
  • Ownership – taking responsibility for delivering results.
  • Mentorship – helping colleagues develop and grow.
  • Customer focus – understanding that engineering excellence is measured by mission success.
  • True leadership – setting standards, building trust, and enabling others to perform at their best.
Why Join Us

You will play a key role in delivering some of Europe's most ambitious nanosatellite and microsatellite missions, working at the intersection of product development, systems engineering, and customer delivery.

This position offers the opportunity to influence technical decisions across multiple programmes, shape future hardware capabilities, and grow into broader technical or people leadership responsibilities as both the team and business continue to expand.
