The MEP ConstructionStore personis responsible forthe safe,accuratereceipt, storage, issue and return of mechanical,electricaland plumbing materials and components on construction sites and in off-sitestores. Thishands-onrole supports site trades,procurementandlogisticsbymaintaininginventory control, ensuring material traceability, managing returns and damaged goods, and operating material handling equipment to keep MEP works running toprogramme.
Key Responsibilities
- Receive deliveries of MEP materials and components;inspect forquantity,specificationand damage; verifydeliverydocumentation and record receipts in the inventory system (SAP or equivalent).
- Maintainaccuratestock records, perform regular cycle counts, reconcile discrepancies, and prepare inventory reports and material issue logs for site managers and procurement.
- Store items securely and safely by type and project; label and segregate hazardous or sensitive materials; apply stock rotation methods to prevent deterioration.
- Pick and issue materials totradesaccording to work orders and site schedules; record issues and returns; manage warranty returns, suppliercreditsand repair arrangements for faulty items.
- Operate forklifts,telehandlersand other lifting equipment to move materials around site and to/from vehicles; ensure equipment is used safely andmaintained.
- Update andmaintaintracking records for materials in transit between suppliers, site and off-sitestores; proactively follow up on delayed or missing deliveries.
- Inspect incoming and stored items for defects, correctspecificationand certification; ensure materials meet project quality and safety standards andmaintaintraceability documentation.
- Enforce site safety rules, correct storage of hazardous materials, safe manualhandlingand PPE use; support waste segregation and recycling procedures.
- Monitor stock levels, raiserequisitionsor notify procurement of shortages,assistwith receiving supplierdeliveriesand coordinate with site supervisors toprioritiseurgent material needs.
- Assistwith site set-up, temporary storage solutions, stock movements duringprogrammechanges and other reasonable duties as required by the site management team.
- Fluent English both written and verbal.
- Previousstores or site stores experience in construction, ideally with MEP materials.
- Experience with inventory systems such as SAP, Procore, or similar.
- Valid forklift and telehandlerlicencesand experience operating material handling equipment.
- CSCS card or equivalent site access certification as required by local regulations.
- Highlyorganisedwith strong attention to detail andhighdegree of accuracy.
- Ability to work onowninitiative and collaborate with site trades and procurement.
- Good communicationand customer care skills for liaising with suppliers,subcontractorsand site teams.
- Receipt verification and stock reconciliation experience.
- Experience handling mechanical,electricaland plumbing components and fittings.
- Familiarity with barcode scanning, handhelddevicesand mobile inventory apps.
- Basic knowledge of MEP product codes,specificationsand certification requirements.
- Experience withreturnsmanagement, warrantyprocessesand supplier claims.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
- Construction site and temporary stores with exposure to noise, dust and moving plant.
- Frequent lifting,carryingandmoving of materials; ability to work at heights or in confined spaces when required by site conditions.
- May include early starts, late finishes or weekend work to meet project schedules.
- Mustcomply with site safety rules, PPErequirementsand manual handling procedures.
