Job summary

Black Swans Exist ApS is seeking a Head of Bioreactor Scale-Up, Upstream Modeling to lead a small expert team within upstream process development. You will own scale-up strategies for mammalian and microbial processes and drive the evolution of a proprietary scale-up model.

The role combines scientific depth with engineering leadership, guiding modeling tool development and ensuring robust transfer from development to manufacturing while collaborating with customers and internal teams.

Qualifications

• Education: Ph.D. or Master’s in chemical/biochemical/bioprocess engineering or related field.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in process development with mammalian and/or microbial cultures.
• Deep understanding of scale-up principles and bioreactor engineering.
• Hands-on experience with process modeling or CFD/simulations.

Responsibilities

• Lead and provide technical direction to a small specialist team focused on upstream process scale-up modeling.
• Define and execute the strategy for the proprietary scale-up model.
• Develop and modernize the modeling platform, migrating from Excel/VBA to Python.
• Interface with customers and internal teams to present modeling strategies.
