Zusammenfassung

SCS Railways is seeking a Lead Temporary Works Design Manager to oversee production and quality of site-wide TW designs, coordinating internal teams and external partners. The role ensures compliance with the Employer's Temporary Works Procedure and industry standards, with a focus on safety, delivery, and continuous improvement.

You will manage a multi-disciplinary TW design team across Newton and Brunel projects, guide design checks, and drive innovation while aligning with project schedules

Qualifikationen

  • Civil/Structural engineering qualification required (preferably BEng or higher).
  • Membership of professional body (CEng MICE or CEng IStructE) highly regarded.
  • Strong leadership, communication and stakeholder management skills are essential.

Jobbeschreibung

You will lead production of Temporary Works Designs project wide, in collaboration with the Temporary Works Design Managers you will identify suitable personnel to carry out designs and checks within the internal and external design teams. External designs may be by JV companies, through the supply chain or specifically approved design consultants. Reporting to the Head of Temporary Works, you will ensure that TW designs are adequate and safely designed for construction, use and dismantling and that development and delivery of TW designs are in accordance with the SCS JV Temporary Works Procedure. The Lead TW Design Manager (LTWDM) primary task is the management and quality assurance of all internal and external TW Design process from Requirement (Design Brief) to Delivery (Construction) Communicating via Design Check Certificates, Drawings, Designers Risk Assessment's & Calc's to the Construction Team & Manage the in-house teams workload / design reviews etc via the Area Temporary Works Design Managers. The role includes the active management of the production of site wide Temporary Works designs, review and design checks and the management of the Temporary Works Design Managers working in the Newton and Brunel team. The candidate is expected to be a competent Temporary Works Design Manager and Designer. Flexible working: We welcome you to ask about the flexibility you need.   • The Lead TW Design Manager (LTWDM) is responsible for planning, management, coordination,integration, monitoring and certification of TW Design on the project.
  • Their competency should be assessed by HoTW to ensure that they have the necessary skills, knowledge and experience to undertake the role.
  • The LTWDM is appointed as Package Manager to control and administer the PSC work in the Project DUs.
  • The LTWDM should: Ensure TW Design is compliant with the Employer's Temporary Works Procedure (HS2-HS2-CVPRO-000-000001) and TW Technical Standard (HS2-HS2-CV-STD-000-000005).
  • Assess the competency of the SCS TW team, of the SCS affiliated companies, the cat.3 checkers, the PSC consultancies and all the other subcontractors working on the project that are producing a TW design output using document 1MC03-SCJ-EN-TEM-S000-000003.
  • Provide support to the Temporary Works Design Managers in the Newton and Brunel teams.
  • Offer TW design support particularly for challenging schemes, for scope that is not in the Designers previous experience or for scope under challenge may require a second opinion, when requested.
  • Organise and lead design Peer reviews (Cat. 4).
  • Liaise with HS2 and the TAA for temporary works design and coordination matters
  • Manage the production of site wide (or reusable) designs and checks.
  • Provide CRE support and management for the Newton and Brunel teams
  • Provide TW design training and support.
  • Ensure the SCS Temporary Works Procedure is applied fully and efficiently.
  • Raise site wide Early Warnings in case of event that can cause delay to completion, delay to meeting a key date or increase the contractor total cost.
  • Lead the management of the TW Design budgets and apply liaise with project Temporary Works
  • Coordinator for variations in case of compensation events.
  • Liaise with Permanent Works Designers to resolve issues of construction method and buildability, as necessary.
  • Ensure compliance with current CDM regulations, Temporary Works Best Practice and all applicable technical standards
  • Ensure the project systems are fully utilised in the project as required contractually.
  • Manage timesheets and budget for the SCS TW team and external TW consultancies working in the Enabling Function.
  • Lead the interview process for new members of the TW team.
  • Drive innovation in temporary works, including investigation, evaluation and integration of best practice and innovations from all SCSJV partners and the supply chain.
  • Involved in every Health and Safety investigation as subject matter expert in case of a TW design elated incident.
  • Lead the KPI process for TW at regular intervals.
  • Lead the compliance report process for TW design., You’ll be a welcomed member of the wider team, with opportunities to take on additional responsibility, join one of our networks for women, military or LGBT+ staff, and participate in cultural and social events with the local community (e.g. as a STEM ambassador).

  • Previous experience in Temporary Works design or Civil/Structural design (circa 10 years' experience or more, essential)
  • Understanding and application of BS5975:2024 (essential)
  • Thorough understanding and application of the CDM Regulations 2015 (essential)
  • Experience managing a temporary works design team (essential)
  • Previous experience in delivering temporary works for Network Rail and London Underground (essential)
  • Membership of relevant professional body (CEng MICE or CEng IStructE, essential)
  • CITB Temporary Works Coordinator Course (preferred)
  • Completed SMSTS (preferred)
    The Skanska | Costain | STRABAG (SCS JV) is delivering the HS2 Main Civils Contracts which include both Lots S1 (Euston Tunnels & Approaches) and S2 (Northolt Tunnels). The combined value of the contracts is around £1.8billion with the works due for completion in 2025. Scope of works includes twin-bored tunnels (TBM), SCL tunnels, shaft sinking, bridge demolition and reconstruction, services diversions, earthworks and the construction of site compounds.
