Responsibilities:

• Coordination of the ultra-high-resolution mass spectrometry unit of the "Metabolism, Senescence and Autophagy" department.
• Research projects on mass spectrometric proteome, metabolome and flux analysis in the context of systems oncology to elucidate disease-relevant molecular mechanisms.
• Development and implementation of quality control and assurance procedures.
• Maintenance and repair of equipment.
• Compliance with laboratory safety in the MS laboratory.
• Conception and delivery of research-led teaching.
• Co-supervision of students (BSc, MSc, PhD).
• Publication activities including participation in conferences and congresses.
• Independent acquisition of third-party funding.

Your Profile:

• Completed studies in natural sciences (PhD or Dr.rer.nat.).
• Scientific achievements demonstrated by publications with first authorship and/or last or corresponding authorship in relevant scientific journals.
• Relevant experience in the field of mass spectrometry-based quantitative proteomics and/or metabolomics, fluxomics, sample preparation and chromatographic separation, quantitative analysis of post-translational modifications, and data acquisition and multi-omics integration of mass spectrometric data.
• Desirable experience in supervision of BSc, MSc, and PhD candidates, successful acquisition of third-party funding, coordination of a mass spectrometry unit (proteomics, metabolomics), and quality control and assurance procedures in MS-based analytics.
• Leadership experience, strong communication skills, self-motivated, team-oriented, self-organised, and structured.
• Several years of mobility experience in non-German-speaking countries.
• Business fluent in written and spoken English and German.

German language skills at B2 level can be proven with a professionally recognised certificate within 2 years after starting the appointment.

As a member of the newly founded department for "Metabolism, Senescence and Autophagy" (Head: Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Kathrin Thedieck) at the Research Center One Health Ruhr, the position holder will complement and strengthen the department's focus on metabolic signal transduction. Of particular interest is the interplay of oncogenic signalling cascades with tumour metabolism for the development of new predictive markers and therapeutic targets in preclinical models and clinical studies. Methods focus on the biochemical and cell biological analysis of new mechanisms and the systems analysis of signalling and metabolic networks. Quantitative MS analysis of the proteome and metabolome and system modelling go hand in hand. The department offers excellent instrumentation with the latest equipment technology for MS-based proteo-metabolomics.

The newly founded Research Centre One Health Ruhr - from Molecules to Systems (of the Universities of Duisburg-Essen, Dortmund and Bochum) focuses on research into the fundamental mechanisms of health and disease, from the molecular level to higher-level systems. The ecosystem is the context in which we consider the complex interactions between environmental health, animal health, and human health in the sense of the "One Health" concept. The "Metabolism, Senescence and Autophagy" department is particularly concerned with the influence of metabolic disruptors on oncogenic mechanisms and therapy response.
