IZ Recruit is seeking an experienced Warehouse Manager to lead the day-to-day operations of a high-volume, semi-automated warehouse. The role focuses on people leadership, operational performance and continuous improvement, with an emphasis on an engaged, accountable team.

You will work closely with Shift Leaders, stay visible on the floor, and empower leaders while maintaining strong relationships across the operation.

We are recruiting an experienced Warehouse Manager to lead the day-to-day operations of a high-volume, semi-automated warehouse within an established international business.

This is a key operational leadership position with responsibility for a warehouse team of more than 50 employees. The role combines people leadership, operational performance and continuous improvement, with a strong emphasis on creating an engaged, accountable and high-performing warehouse team.

We are particularly looking for a manager who enjoys being close to the operation. You will be visible and accessible on the warehouse floor, working closely with Shift Leaders and employees, understanding operational challenges first-hand and helping the team respond quickly when problems arise.

At the same time, you will develop your Shift Leaders and encourage greater ownership and decision-making throughout the operation rather than becoming the person who needs to solve every problem personally.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the day-to-day warehouse operation across shifts, ensuring consistently high levels of customer service, quality and operational performance.
• Lead, motivate and develop a warehouse workforce of 50+ employees through Shift and Team Leaders.
• Maintain a strong and visible presence within the warehouse and build effective relationships with employees at all levels.
• Identify and respond quickly to operational issues, bottlenecks and changing priorities.
• Develop Shift Leaders, strengthening their leadership capability, decision‑making and accountability.
• Drive continuous improvements in warehouse productivity, efficiency and ways of working.
• Monitor operational performance and use relevant KPIs to identify opportunities for improvement.
• Optimise workforce utilisation and ensure staffing levels are aligned with operational volumes and seasonal fluctuations.
• Promote a culture of ownership, accountability, teamwork and proactive problem‑solving.
• Support the effective operation of a semi‑automated warehouse environment, including automated storage, conveyor and material‑flow processes.
• Ensure effective communication and coordination between shifts and across the wider business.
• Maintain appropriate standards relating to warehouse processes, safety, quality and operational discipline.

Your Profile

• Proven experience leading warehouse or distribution operations within a high‑volume environment.
• Experience managing a sizeable operational workforce, ideally with responsibility for 50+ employees.
• Experience leading through Shift Leaders, Team Leaders or Supervisors.
• A hands‑on and visible leadership style, with the willingness to spend significant time within the operation rather than managing primarily from an office.
• Strong people‑management skills with the ability to motivate, develop and hold teams accountable.
• Demonstrable experience improving warehouse productivity, efficiency or operational performance.
• Good understanding of warehouse KPIs, workforce planning and resource allocation.
• Experience within an automated or semi‑automated warehouse environment is strongly preferred.
• Comfortable working within a fast‑moving operation and responding decisively to changing priorities and operational challenges.
• Fluent German and English.
• Experience in a related distribution environment, such as e‑commerce, retail distribution, consumer goods, FMCG, automotive parts, electronics, pharmaceutical distribution, 3PL/contract logistics, wholesale distribution, etc., would be an advantage.
• Relevant logistics, operations or supply‑chain qualifications would be advantageous, although substantial relevant operational experience is equally valued.

Leadership Style

This role will particularly suit a manager who believes that strong warehouse leadership starts with being present within the operation.

You should be comfortable engaging directly with employees, understanding problems at floor level and stepping in when operational circumstances require it, while also empowering Shift Leaders and employees to take responsibility and make effective decisions.

The successful candidate will combine a practical, action‑oriented approach with the management skills required to build a sustainable, high‑performing warehouse operation.
