Around 1,600 students pursue their studies and research in attractive degree programs at Environmental Campus Birkenfeld of Trier University. We are the University of Applied Sciences, which has the highest level of research activity and third-party funding in Rhineland-Palatinate. This means we offer excellent conditions for carrying out projects in collaboration with regional and national industries.
The professorship shown above is to be at the earliest possible date 2025 in the Department Environmental Planning/ Environmental Technology at the Environmental Campus Birkenfeld.
The Mechanical Engineering group at the Environmental Campus Birkenfeld is known for its practice-oriented education, interdisciplinary projects, and a strong focus on future technologies. The degree programs combine traditional fields of mechanical engineering with modern topics such as digital product development using CAD and simulation, the creation of digital twins for production processes, additive manufacturing, robotics, and industrial digitalization. A defining feature of the group is its strong application focus, supported by numerous collaborations with industry partners. Currently, externally funded research projects with a total volume of approximately 20 million euros are being conducted. The teaching area is part of the accredited Bachelor's degree program Mechanical.Engineering.and.Technical.Planning (6 semesters) and the Master's degree program Digital.Product.Development (4 semesters). The professorship is responsible for teaching and research in the field of CAD / Product Lifecycle Management (PLM). This includes delivering courses in the area of Computer-Aided Design (CAD) as well as the integration of a Product Lifecycle Management system (PLM) into the curriculum. The teaching responsibilities also include courses in the fields of multibody simulation or computational fluid dynamics (CFD).
Commitment to research, development and interdisciplinary cooperation is a prerequisite.
Courses are to be offered in German and if required also in English.
In addition to a strong commitment to teaching, active participation in the university’s academic self-governance is expected.
The state of Rhineland-Palatinate and Trier University of Applied Sciences support a supervision model that requires a high level of faculty presence at the university.

For this professorship, we are looking for a committed person, who has gained extensive practical experience in digital product development with a focus on CAD in a responsible position within the mechanical engineering sector or a related field, and now wishes to share this expertise with our students through teaching and research.
In addition to the general labour law requirements, the recruitment requirements include at least
1. a successfully completed university degree in the field of mechanical engineering or a related degree programme with a specialist focus on the above-mentioned requirements,
2. pedagogical aptitude,
3. a special aptitude for scientific work, which is usually demonstrated by a qualifled doctorate, and
4. in addition, special achievements in the application or further development of scientific knowledge and methods in at least flve years of relevant professional practice, of which at least three years must have been spent outside the university sector.
The appointment is made as a civil servant for life if the relevant legal requirements are met.
