Synagen AI in Berlin is seeking a VP of Engineering to build and lead the engineering organization behind our AI platform for oncology care. You will own delivery, architecture and technical quality while staying hands-on where it matters.

You will scale teams, drive high standards, and partner with physicians and researchers to turn product requirements into reliable software. English is required; German is a plus.

Qualifikationen

• Experience leading engineering teams in a fast-moving product company.
• Proven ability to scale products from prototype to production.
• Strong engineering judgement across Python backend, cloud, distributed systems and AI-enabled products.
• Experience building and operating LLM or agentic systems in production, including evaluation and guardrails.
• You review and quality-control AI-generated code using modern AI coding tools.
• Evidence of fast, high-quality decisions under ambiguity, including deciding what not to build.
• Healthcare, clinical workflows, FHIR or safety-critical software is a plus.
• Excellent written and spoken English; German is a plus.

The role

As VP Engineering, you will build and lead the engineering organisation behind our AI platform. Your mandate is clear: turn product requirements and validated AI concepts into reliable, scalable and maintainable software. You will own engineering delivery, architecture, technical quality and engineering culture while remaining hands‑on where it matters.

Requirements

What you’ll bring

• Experience building and leading engineering teams in a fast‑moving product company.
• A track record of taking products from prototype to production while scaling engineering teams, processes and technical foundations from early‑stage through growth.
• Strong engineering judgement across modern Python‑based backend systems, cloud infrastructure, distributed systems and AI‑enabled products.
• Experience building and operating LLM or agentic systems in production, including evaluation, guardrails and failure handling.
• You use modern AI coding tools as a core part of your engineering workflow and can effectively review and quality‑control AI‑generated code.
• Evidence of making fast, high‑quality decisions under ambiguity, including deciding what not to build.
• Experience in healthcare, clinical workflows, FHIR, regulated or safety‑critical software, or enterprise software deployments is a strong advantage, but not required.
• Excellent written and spoken English. German is a plus, but not required.
