Impala Search client seeks a Head of Engineering in Hamburg to lead the software engineering organisation, report to the CTO and drive the move to cross-functional product squads. You will cultivate ownership, scale technical leadership, and align delivery with business goals.

Key stakeholders include Product, ML, Regulatory and Commercial teams; you will embed AI-assisted development while maintaining quality and accountability for patient care technology.

Partnering with Roche and AstraZeneca, with 11 clinically approved AI solutions and 18+ healthcare system integrations, this is AI moving beyond research into real patient care at scale.

Role Overview

You’ll join as Head of Engineering, the number two in the tech organisation, reporting to the Chief Technology Officer leading the organisational transformation to cross-functional product squads.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead, coach and grow a high-performing software engineering organisation, creating an environment where engineers can take meaningful ownership and develop into future leaders.
• Introduce stronger operating structures across engineering, bringing greater clarity to decision-making, responsibilities, prioritisation and delivery.
• Build and evolve the team through thoughtful hiring, onboarding and talent development.
• Embed AI-assisted development throughout the software delivery process, increasing engineering velocity without compromising robustness, quality or human accountability.
• Partner closely with Product, Machine Learning, Clinical, Regulatory and commercial stakeholders to turn complex requirements into effective engineering outcomes.

Qualifications

• Substantial experience leading software engineering teams and developing engineers and engineering leaders.
• Excellent people leadership skills, particularly around coaching, mentoring, feedback and career development.
• Previous hands-on software engineering experience, giving you the technical depth to challenge and earn the trust of experienced engineers.
• Evidence of improving planning, delivery reliability and organisational effectiveness within software teams.
• Strong stakeholder management skills and the ability to work effectively across technical, product, commercial and specialist functions.
• Genuine curiosity around AI-assisted software engineering and how emerging tooling can fundamentally improve the way engineering organisations operate.
