We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Victim Advocate to support and assist victims of domestic abuse in compliance with DoD 6400.1M and Army Regulation (AR) 608-18 Family Advocacy Program. The Victim Advocate (VA) will provide crisis intervention, advocacy, and outreach services to victims, ensuring they have access to necessary resources and support systems.
Responsibilities :
  1. Provide crisis intervention, safety assessments, and develop safety plans for victims of domestic abuse.
  2. Assist victims in securing medical treatment, inform them of their legal rights, and provide referrals to military and civilian resources such as shelters and child protective services.
  3. Deliver advocacy and outreach services to support victims and at-risk family members.
  4. Maintain knowledge of family violence dynamics, risk assessments, safety planning, environmental stressors, and relevant federal and state laws.
  5. Build and maintain trusting relationships with victims through empathy, sensitivity, and effective communication.
  6. Intervene in crisis situations with sound judgment, flexibility, and problem-solving skills, ensuring the principle of do no harm.
  7. Collaborate with military and civilian personnel, including medical, social services, law enforcement, and legal teams, to assist victims.
  8. Conduct briefings for soldiers, commanders, and civilian personnel to increase awareness of domestic abuse and improve response efforts.
  9. Operate in accordance with established guidelines of the Family Advocacy Program (FAP) and Victim Advocacy Program (VAP).
  10. Maintain program documentation, including reports and management data.
  11. Ensure proper transportation setup and display for domestic abuse prevention and response activities.
  12. Recruit and train Exceptional Family Member Program (EFMP) providers, maintaining utilization records and training files.
Qualifications :
  1. Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Psychology, Education, Community Health, or Public Health from an accredited institution.
  2. Minimum of 2 years of experience providing direct victim advocacy services for domestic abuse victims.
  3. Preferred: Victim Advocacy Certification.
  4. Minimum of 1 year of experience in EFMP coordination within a military Family Support Center or a civilian social service agency serving military families.
  5. Strong knowledge of family violence dynamics, safety planning, risk assessments, and available community resources.
  6. Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  7. Experience in delivering briefings for both small and large groups.
  8. Ability to work independently, assess risks, develop, implement, and evaluate intervention plans.
  9. Must possess a valid, unrestricted motor vehicle license.
  10. Physically and mentally capable of performing job-related duties, including standing, walking, lifting, and setting up displays.
  11. Proficiency in computer skills, including preparing briefing slides, entering data, and generating reports.
