Our client, a leading global scientific publisher, is seeking a Vice President of Institutional Sales – Europe to lead strategic sales initiatives that drive revenue growth and enhance customer engagement across the region.
This role leads a large sales team focused on selling research products and services to academic and government institutions in the UK, DACH, and Northwest/Southwest Europe. Key responsibilities include achieving annual sales targets approved by the Management Board and directly participating in negotiations with major national consortia and libraries advancing Open Access initiatives in the region.
The VP oversees departmental directors and managers and holds overall responsibility for all team members within the department. This position is a key member of the CCO leadership team, working alongside other Vice Presidents across Research, Sales and Marketing.
Skills & Experience:- Proven experience working for an STM (Scientific, Technical, and Medical) or academic publisher, with a strong focus on selling to the academic and government sectors – a must for this role.
- Demonstrated success in leading, motivating, and developing high-performing commercial teams across multiple countries.
- Proven ability to manage large sales organisations and consistently exceed revenue targets, ideally within an institutional sales context.
- Extensive experience in complex negotiations with a strong track record of driving successful outcomes.
- Skilled at engaging with senior leadership and executive teams to align commercial strategies with broader business goals.
- A strong background operating within a complex, global matrix environment is essential for success in this role.
- Experience working in international business settings is highly desirable.
- Prior experience in the publishing or editorial sector, including a solid understanding of Open Access market dynamics.
- Demonstrated ability to lead through change and manage organisational transformation effectively.
